Righto. That was a bit of fun.
I am off to a cricket dinner at NSW Parliament House to celebrate.

Meh, such is a Democracy, Hass.
It could be an interesting 3 years ahead. And I think we are all gonna be roundly sick of Rob Oakeshott by the time the next election arrives. Fark, the qunt could talk underwater.

The same can be said for both sides' supporters.
But to hope the country collapses and falls in a heap so we can go to another election is stupid talk from bitter people. Sour grapes really.
We should just get on with life and hope the country progresses.

Re: The Australian Federal Election 2010 Thread (III)
Just back from a cracking night at NSW Parliament House for the LBW Trust. Barry O'Farrell was the "parliamentary host" - turns out that he loves the great game so bodes well for when the government changes.
Sen John Faulkner was also there having flown in from Canberra today - he is also a massive cricket tragic who is a patron of the LBW Trust.
I was sitting next to Mike Coward and Murray Bennett. Bennett was totally grouse - no pretensions about his ability but the man bowled Viv Richards in a Test match so he rocks. He talked about the "transitions" glasses that he used to wear - it was his only sponsorship.
Coward was very depressed about match fixing and the state of the game in general. He thinks we need a cracking Ashes to bring the game back from the brink.
Other guests on the night were the very rootable Stephanie Brantz who was the MC, Peter Taylor, Gav Robertson, Mo, MacGill and Hauritz. Hauritz was pretty good actually - he clearly loves playing for his country. Macgill was pissed and not very funny although talked about being more than satisfied with being No 2 behind Warne for most of his career (200+ test wickets earns you the right to be philosophical).
I ended up buying a framed bat signed by the Ch Nein commentators - Richie, Bill, Tony, Chappelli, Tubby, Smashing, Slats and Heals. Pretty happy with it actually other than Smashing.

Suck sh!t.
Not so - Gillard has long been the preferred PM in the polls and the ALP won more votes than the Coalition after preferences.

Not that it matters because the vote is so close to be meaningless, but it's still not clear who will win the two-party preferred. At one stage today it was exactly 50-50. It looks like whoever ends up "winning" the 2PP will only do so by about 0.01 per cent or something similarly miniscule.
It is irrelevant anyway. The people vote in individual seats. Neither major party benefited from a gerrymander. More elected MPs decided to support Gillard than decided to support Abbott. Julia Gillard's premiership is as legitimate as the 25 that came before her.

Looks like another election is on the cards anyway. If the ALP goes up in the polls Gillard will call an election in an effort to secure a majority. If the ALP slumps in the polls the independents will pull the plug so as not to be tarnished with keeping an unpopular government in power. Either way it looks like a return to the polls this time next year.

Don't think so Allan. The last two independants each made enough noise on longevity of the parliament that neither of the above is likely.

Hass, skulls would still vote Liberal if they fielded a leadership team of Stalin, Hitler, Goering, Krushchev and George W Bush.Hass wrote:skully wrote:So I guess it's congrats to the overwhelming majority of posters in here who areraving pinko leftiesnot mad enough to vote for Abbott. [sigh]
Ah, the view from the smelly Pom in the cheap seats (they're the ones in the gutter outside the crack house.)Henry wrote:Seems weird. Like Australia now has a prime minister that they don't want.

UK Election 2010 - Cameron's Tories get 306 of the 326 required for a majority - 93.87% of target.
Aus Election 2010 - Gillard's ALP get 72 of the 76 required for a majority - 94.73%
Suck sh!t yourself, rent boy, but try not to enjoy it too much.

I've just walked past a news stand with the small paper for stupid spivs in a prominant position. The front page claims that government was decided by the offer of a Ministry position for Oakeshott. Rupert, you are a disgrace.

No surprise there. It seems the only qualification needed to work for News Ltd is the willingness to do whatever Rupert says while taking his todger.Mick Sawyer wrote:Rupert, you are a disgrace.
