The Royal Wedding Empty The Royal Wedding

Post by JKLever Tue 26 Apr 2011, 12:29

Whilst most people are pretty much pro-monarchy in the UK( ... at least 80/20) the upcoming Royal do is distinctly leaving Britons cold.

Yet I turn on the TV late last night, took a quick peek at CNN, FOX, CBS and they're full of Yankies drooling over the event. WTF is gannin' on?

My mate went to New York just after the wedding had been announced, that's all they wanted to talk about. I expect, as they have nothing like it over there, that it's mystical to them. Like if Superman finally asked Wonder Woman to tie the knot.

F*ck me!!! F*cking hell!! Talk about comprehensive. Well, I shall be doing my damndest to avoid every single minute. Yet secretly thanking them for allowing me an extra day off. OK, I'm sure they didn't have anything to do with the day off but if he hadn't wanted to get into that bird's knicks so much, we wouldn't even be thanking the f*cking stars we're only working until donnerstag.

Actually, some 50 year old dreaded sea hag that I know is having a street party, roadblocked and everything. She's anti-Royal though, so I think it's an anti-Royal Wedding party. I'm such an apathetic qunt that I probably can't even be bothered to tie my rope to that tree either. Call it a nihilistic rejection of all but I'll probably go and sit myself in a public house establishment's garden, if nice enough.... maybe slap a few preggos around... as long as a few of my mates are there to whoop and jeer.

Channel Nine are only broadcasting it until 8.30pm (our time) cos they know folk would rather watch Rugby League. At least they got their priorities right with that one.

The Royal Wedding Empty Re: The Royal Wedding

Post by Allan D Tue 26 Apr 2011, 13:52

Hundreds of birds in the air
And millions of leaves on the pavement,
Then the bells pealing on
Over palace and people outside,
All for the words "I will"
To love's most holy enslavement -
What can we do but rejoice
With a triumphing bridegroom and bride?

Sir John Betjeman, then Poet Laureate, on the wedding of Princess Anne and Capt. Mark Phillips (now dissolved), November 1973.

Dance, dance, as Eve and Adam
Kicked their worries off
In Paradise, before they heard
God politely cough
Soft as the Thistle's crown
Then dance on, like a tuning fork
That wakes unearthly stars
In human hearts, and makes them throb
Like noble, old guitars
Gold as the Honey Bee
And dance, and dance, like Sirius
Inseparably two
Who twirls in heaven, to show the earth
What harmony can do
Soft as the Thistle's crown
For from this day, which gives you each
To each as man and wife
That's the dance, and this the song
Of a true and happy life
Gold, gold as the Honey Bee
Soft as a Thistle's crown.

Ted Hughes, then Poet Laureate, on the wedding of Prince Andrew and Miss Sarah Ferguson (now dissolved), July 1986.

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments; love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O, no, it is an ever-fixèd mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his heighth be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Wm. Shakespeare, about no one in particular, except perhaps "The Dark Lady".

Thieves could have a field day at most of the TV Network sites. It appears most networks have sent just about everyone to Engulund for this shin-dig.

Yes..the republicans in Oz are whipping themselves into a frenzy of who 'could'nt give a stuff' the most. Apparently, to be a republican, you have to be a boorish, rude, ingrate who takes every opportunity to mock & ridicule HRH.
I'm not a republican, nor a monarchist. I simply believe in the old adage, 'if it aint broke, don't fix it'.
I have no malice towards the Royal family & hope the impending nuptuals have more success than other recent adventures however i won't be going out of my way to view the event. Having said that, as it will be shown on friday evening our time when bugger all is on. i may just have a look, just to view the spectacle, afterall. no one does it better than the Poms.
