Lesser than Azhar I suppose, hence the jealousy.prodigy wrote:Mick Sawyer wrote:prodigy wrote:Azharuddin (HS-199)
Would thought his HS was around $US400,000, with a bunch of similar collects.

Not the best player to have never got a Test Double Ton but I was recently reading the First Class stats of a specialist batsmen who averaged over 40 in his test career. He made over 20,000 FC runs & hit 30 centuries but never reached 150 in a first class innings. Surprised me.

Well Gangles isn't fit to lick Langer's bootlaces as a batsman buut otherwise you might be right.
Seriously though, Gangles is probably ahead of Hodge and Styris.

That's the chap. I was very surprised to read that his highest score was only 140*.

I see that Brian Close with 35000 FC runs and 1200+ FC innings never made a FC double ton.

Of all the Aussies to have 20000+ FC runs, only 2 average less than 50.

Re: Best Player to have never got a Test Double Ton?
I have a stats book written in 1968 which lists Australians with more than 10,000 FC runs. Les Favell was the only specialist batsman among them who didn't make a FC double century. Colin McCool & Richie Benaud were also there but they were all-rounders.

Also from that 1968 stats book, Bruce Mitchell hit 30 FC centuries without making a double.

Yes, made a top score of 194 at the SCG in December 1932 in the 1st Test of the Bodyline Tour and finished his Test career with an average of 60.73.

Sutcliffe however got 17 scores of 200+ in his f/c career with a top score of 313 against Essex at Leyton in 1932 and is the fourth most prolific scorer of double hundreds in f/c career behind Bradman (37), Hammond (36) and Hendren (22) (Graeme Hick needs 1 more score of 200+ to equal Sutcliffe's tally).
The award to the most prolific runscorer in the f/c game who never got to 200 belongs to another Yorkie. Brian Close made 34994 runs @33.26 in 786 games between 1949 and 1986 with a top score of 198 for Yorkshire against Surrey at The Oval in June 1960.

Re: Best Player to have never got a Test Double Ton?
The most prolific centurion, as far as I can determine, never to have reached 200 is Arthur Milton, the last England double football and cricket international (who also made a century on his Test debut against NZ in 1958), who played for Arsenal and Gloucestershire (and whom I saw play in a Gillette Cup tie at Trent Bridge in his only season captaining Gloucester in 1968). He made 56 centuries between 1951 and 1972 with a top score of 170 against Sussex at Cheltenham in August 1965.
