Just watched both episodes. Good fun stuff and I'll even overlook the historical inaccuracies such as letting shirtless people with thongs into the Members Pavilions.

FMD, Packer was my age when he did all that.

And Mrs K was very impressed that I knew all the words to C'Mon Aussie C'Mon.

On the other hand, Mr K, I doubt you resemble a warthog. SO there are swings and roundabouts. ...

Aye, impressive genes to pull that sort of business mongrel off at just 40. His old man was apparently an even bigger qunt.

Would she still be impressed if she knew you learnt them from the Shannon Noll version?

What I remember most about the lyrics is the "Redpath it's good to see you back".

It stood out because I had no idea WTF Redpath was or in fact where he'd been?

Redders had retired before the disasterous 77 Ashes tour to run his Antique store, but was enticed back by Austin Robertson. He was a flop in WSC.

OK, I know it was television drama, the show continually emphasised what the "circus" was costing. My recollection is that the goanna was never too concerned with outlays because the broadcasting license stipulated minimum hours of locally made content. The production costs of cricket were only a fraction of a show like The Sullivans.

Hardly unusual for entrepreneurs to spend and bean counters to whinge.

Re Redders, as I recall it he played in the first WSC game, made 150 having hardly played at all for 18 months, then half an hour into his second match a few days later he fell over the stumps celebrating a wicket, did a knee or ankle or both and not much more was seen of him for the rest of WSC.

I was about to post this:

Nerkles must have been on the weed at that stage of his life. Redders in Supertests:

1 22/01/1979 WIN SCG 1st lbw b A Padmore 9
2nd DNB
2 02/02/1979 WXI SCG 1st c A Knott b C Rice 4
2nd c A Knott b C Rice 3

But thought better of it so did a bit more research and found this match:

http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/37/37629.html

which was one of the "other" matches.

Looks like Clive Lloyd was Redders' wicket that caused all the problems:

Redders had a very strange career ... just missed a century on debut, did not hit a six in test cricket until his last game over 10 years later, missed the 1972 tour when that oxygen thief Bruce Francis was chosen, and was even called for throwing at some stage. In his last Test match (well I think it was his last match), when he uncharacteristically holed out to give Lance Gibbs the then Test match wickets record, breaking Fred Trueman's record at that time, he was the first to congratulate Gibbs ... and there was a strong suspicion he had given his wicket away to ensure that Gibbs reached the milestone in what from memory was also his last game.

He was easily the best batsman in the 1970-71 series, when we were demolished by Snow, although Stackpole made more runs (207 of them in one innings Brisbane, where he should have been given out 'run out' on around 18).

Sadly ... some of the above is not remembered accurately!

THIS MATCH was the last played at Test level by both Gibbs and Redpath.

No sixes credited to Redpath though.

I was sure he had waited until very very late in his Test career to clear the boundary.

His CRICINFO PROFILE states that the only two sixes of Redpath's career were hit in his 66th Test.
