Re: The Golf Thread (II)
Westwood's putting's gone shaky again. Poulter the new leader with a four way tie for second a stroke behind.

FFS Westwood's putter is dead again. Two off sole leader Poulter. Kaymer's snuck to 18 under.

Choker whinging about the belly putters being made illegal but the Euro-foreigners currently in the country (like Poulter) are calling for them to be banned. Good times.

Don't like belly putters. It's surely not too much to expect pros to balance shoulders and elbows when putting.baggygreen wrote:Choker whinging about the belly putters being made illegal but the Euro-foreigners currently in the country (like Poulter) are calling for them to be banned. Good times.

Anyway, there has been no rule change that I've heard of. Just in the news cos Woods called for it. All forgotten when Monty, Harrington, McDowell and so many others said it's unfair.

Well, I can't remember a bigger choke than that at the British Open. Although he did a commendable job at the Masters too.

GWS in the 90s had his fair share. Bradley last year did his best to cock up the USPGA.
Masters 2011? That wasn't a choke. Schwartzel won it. Like Westwood in 2010, he lost to a player who had a run of great holes. The choke came from Rory that day.

Harrington at the eighteenth in Hong Kong, special shot that. Low flighted skiddy shot, skimmed the water (bounced off the water would be a better description) and landed it on the fringe.

Hong Kong Open going well (though stoopid ESS thought touring cars are more important), MIchael Campbell a stroke off the lead now. Will most likely seal Campbell's ET card.

Re: The Golf Thread (II)
The United States Golf Association, acting in concert with the Royal & Ancient, proposed a new rule, Rule 14-1b, which states that in making a stroke, players cannot intentionally anchor a club on any part of their bodies or use their gripping hands to rest against their bodies as an anchor point.
In a Wednesday conference call with reporters, Mike Davis, the executive director of the association, said that this was not an equipment ban but a clarification of what constitutes a stroke. “This is a playing rule,” he said, “not an equipment rule.”
The proposed rule would allow the continued use of all conforming golf clubs, including belly-length and long putters, as long as they are not anchored during a stroke. The intent, Davis said, is to preserve golfers’ abilities to play a wide variety of strokes in their individual style and the integrity of the game.
“One of the most fundamental things about the game of golf is we believe the player should hold the club away from his body and swing it freely,” Davis said. ‘We think this is integral to the traditions of the game.”
Before making a final decision on the proposed rule, the U.S.G.A. and the R.& A. will entertain feedback from those in the golf community. “We believe we have considered this issue from every angle,” Peter Dawson, chief executive of the R.& A., said, “but given the wide-ranging interest in this subject, we would like to give stakeholders in the game the opportunity to put forward any new matters for consideration.”
The rule would take effect in 2016, and comes after three of the past five men’s majors were won with players using long putters, a generic description that covers belly putters and the longer broomstick models.

I am perplexed why they are so concerned about hinged putters but they are fine with super balls and those bazookas they use as drivers that have created a far greater change to the game
