Still reckon Pup was better to add another 50 runs to the lead (Weed was starting to flay them), then have 2 flat-out sessions at 'em.

Ian Chappell is obsessed with mental advantage, and reckons South Africa should play more aggressively now. The fact is, Adelaide will be a completely different match.
Momentum is so overrated.

Kallis nicks it to Clarke at slip off Lyon!
30 overs remaining, one more wicket and they're into the tail.
Auntie talking about how if Australia bat again they'd open with Warner and Quiney

Loss of the day killed this match. Kept the fresh a day younger, softer and slower and robbed us of a possible result.
Moral victory to Aus??

Another wicket. Still a hint of a result?

F*ck momentum. Whoever wins the first hour of the next test has the momentum, not the last hour of this one.

Agree. New ball, new wicket, fresh bowlers. Steyn could go through us pretty easily.

You've still got the break to go through. I never suggested anything silly like a moral victory, there isn't one, but if Aus get closer to a result here, they'll come out of the draw looking better than Saf. Ergo, the better momentum (or form or whatever the fark you want to call it).

Nine commentators still talking up the chances of an Aus victory.

Yes but that's just something they can pat themselves on the back over now. Will have no bearing on the next test.

Well I'd say knowing they had a chance, against a very strong side, will have a huge impact on their confidence in the next test,

Might do a bit in the first session on day 1 but yes, likely to be flat.
Tsolekile for JP and Tahir for Kleinveldt, imo.

Well SA did lose their way halfway through Sunday; Australia certainly thoroughly outplayed them over the past two days. Suddenly SA will be the ones thinking more about how they can take twenty wickets after their attack was built up so much.

I remember people talking in the last Ashes about how in reaching a quick 1-100 at the end of the Brisbane test, Aus had "gained some momentum heading into Adelaide". After 15 minutes in Adelaide Aus were 3-10.
Then there was Perth, where England were pretty soundly beaten. A week later in the Boxing Day test, Aus were all out 98 and England were 0-100 at stumps on day one.
Momentum from match to match is a complete myth. Something that the media uses to fill column space in between tests.

Or how about Aus in Cape Town?

Well he's been very big on the fact that SA is mentally fragile and makes mistakes which let the opposition in. I did agree with him about Rudolph who blocked a Lyon full toss and then got out next ball. Australia generally knows when they're on the back foot against SA that there's always a chance of a fightback because they rarely go for the jugular, especially when they're batting. Their drowsy batting cost them the test against us at Joburg last year.
