Australia v South Africa, 1st Test, Brisbane, 9-13 November, 2012
First Test for the Yarps at the Gabba in 49 years, apparently*.
Pup wins the toss on a massive greeny, and inserts Smiffy?
Elmer for 12th Man?

When was the last time we lost at the Gabba.
I think that is about to change unless we get said first crack at a green top.

Under Quntish in the dictionary is "Australia's performance in world cricket between GSC/DKL/Bacchus's retirement and the 89 Ashes".embee wrote:Team Runs Wkts Balls Ave RPO Result Opposition Ground Start Date

Clarke also wrote today that Haddit hasn't had it.
If it's a greentop under leaden skies the toss may decide the match. Otherwise it will be interesting to see how SA handles the unique conditions of the Gabba with the bounce and swing/seam etc.

Actually no, he played. Took 3-95 in Aus's 305 (Boony 143). Chook, McSofty and Merv knocked the Snoozies over cheaply twice and we only needed 97 to win the match. Rare mid-late 80s good times.

Not the worst pace attack on paper. They were still all a long way from their peaks though.

This was the first Test of the 3 match series that Aus famously won after the Whit held out the might of Paddles in the final over at the G, after an AB 205 dominated draw in Adelaide.

So, will AB keep wicket for the Saffies? Or is it too risky with his dodgy back? I think they'd be nuts to give him the gloves.
Possible Saffie team-
Smith(c)
Petersen
Amla
Kallis
de Villiers
Duminy/Rudolph
Tsolekile+
Philander
Steyn
M.Morkel
Tahir/Kleinveldt
If they decide not to play Tahir then Duminy will bat at six ahead of Rudolph as much for his off spin than batting ability.

I guess another option for the Saffies would be to play Robin Peterson as the spinner. Would strengthen the lower order batting, as well.

Must say that Bad Habit was gracious in his comments about his omission and in offering support for his replacement..
Interesting that Inverarity has reportedly said that Bad Habit is next in line if Wade succumbed to injury ...wonder where that leaves Paine and Neville

there has been little comment in the press or here about the non inclusion of Paddy Cummins in the squad for the 1st test...found this to be a bit of a surprise...think our best quick line up is OP, Koo and Paddy

I think he's an exciting young talent, but at this stage I don't think he's better than Hilfenhaus and Siddle. Or even Pattinson and Starc for that matter.
