Re: The Golf Thread (III)
And a Baker-Finch-esque 91 from David Duval, including a nontuple-bogey 14 They struggled to count that one, it seems. He’s doing a bit better today, could yet break 80.
Rory storming through the back nine for a chance of making the cut now.

I see a number of big names including Tiger missed the cut. Former winner David Duval finished 27 over.
Re: The Golf Thread (III)
For the next tournament, I'd like a Rory/Koepka pairing followed immediately by a Holmes/deChambeau pairing.
In the name of his so called scientific approach, the latter is just disgracefully slow.

Re: The Golf Thread (III)
Re slow play, I heard an interview with a journeyman Oz golf pro. It was a couple of weeks ago and I have forgotten the bloke's name.
He was discussing his own history of slow play. His fixed routine set up once averaged 29 seconds.
After plenty of feedback, not all of it subtle, and his own bad form he had a rethink about his set up routine (as part of a broader rethink about his game).
He has more than halved his set-up time, tho he said his form was still shyte. The interviewer noted his form had actually improved.
Slow play is an absolute blight for pros and hackers alike. In pro golf, I would place the proven time wasters together and at the back of the field on days one and two. There would be no provision for halting play for bad light. If they do not complete they don't make the cut.

Been lucky up have a few great finishes in recent months. The Solheim cup finale is tight up with them. Sensational finish by the Europeans to muck the win.

Floppy Milf Ickelson has become the oldest Major winner at 50, after taking out the US PGA by 2 shots.
Well done him. He sure boomed some drives (even besting the Hulk Bryson DeChambeau on occasions) throughout the tournament, and his wedge was as lethal as ever.

Was going to happen sooner or later, a few have contended for major titles at 50+ in recent years, and Tom Watson was nearly 60 when he missed a ten-foot putt for the Open...

Farking Bryson de Chambeau. He only had to finish top 10 and I would have won $400 and so after leading by 2 with 8 to play he ends up finishing 26th.

Jesus, he was fourth last time I look this morning.
Obviously he put some of his steroid induced bombs into the long Torrey Pines rough late in his round. Kafka will be pissing himself.

Mingey looked very calm and relaxed on the course .... nothing extravagant about the swing, easy putting style. All near-perfect technique with no foibles.

So, is Greg Norman’s 35-year grudge against the PGA Tour over apartheid going to tear the sport in two?
Looks like we’re losing what could potentially have been our next four Ryder Cup captains, in Poulter, Westwood, Garcia and McDowell.

Re: The Golf Thread (III)
Broadcast quality of liv is top class. Puts the rest of golf to shame. With Reed and DeChambeau also joining along with solid players like Talor Gooch... It's going to be a pretty good field
The European tour getting hot under the collar is laughable. They sold out to middle East money in 1989 itself. In fact, they're now called the DP world tour ffs. Wonder how many times they cared about human rights when sharing skyline photos during Dubai desert classic every year... that skyline was obviously built on robot labour with no loss of life. They even had a tournament in Saudi for the past 3 years.
The likes of the BBC and media attacking these players while generally being mum during the Qatar masters and Race to Dubai finale is also beyond pathetic.

It's obviously sportwashing. But that's existed as long as sport itself.

Re: The Golf Thread (III)
Average age of the “name” players is over 40, it’s virtually a seniors event, very few there with realistic prospects of winning majors in future. A bunch of players sacrificing their legacy (and Ryder Cup captaincy prospects) in the name of sportswashed cash they don’t even need. As shameless as Boris Johnson.
