Re: KP out for the series
As will the entire Aussie bowling attack, specificlly Clark.
I can see it now ...
1st dig - Bell c. Haddin b Clark............ 4.
2nd dig - Bell c. Clarke b Clark ...........11.
Average for the match ......................7.5. (In keeping with 2005).

Re: KP out for the series
I know he wouldn't, but how good would it be if Tresco could be persuaded to cover for KP for the rest of the summer? He's in good nick at the moment..

Re: KP out for the series
I brought up the Trecothick option at the start of the summer. Apparently back in May, Strauss asked Tres if he would consider making himself available, and Tres politely refused.

Yeah - he says in his book that KP asked him, too. He couldn't consider it for various reasons, mainly his mental health obviously, and he can't tour; but that wasn't a request just for 3 tests as cover. You'd think he might just do that..

Rumour has it that there's a six pack carrying ex Somerset CCC physio who still works around the Taunton area whom Mrs Tres was alleged to have dallied with that caused all the aggro in the first place ...
No way will MT chance his arm batting away from home again.

The penny drop son England much sooner than expected. That means they will need someone to stand up and save at least one test that KP would have done.....

They were discussing potential replacements on Sky - Bell is a given but were discussing possible replacements should any other batsman get injured.
Key, Shah, Denly, Moore all put forward - noone even mentioned Trott

I don't think any of us fully understand. Probably just cant cope with the high profile games anymore.
Sad, but not a chance of coming back, he'd be a perfect number 3

Re: KP out for the series
I'm reading his book at the moment, JK. So far I'm getting the impression that it's not the nature of high-profile games, but the touring - or even the thought of it - that proper farks his heid up. He didn't think it fair or viable only to play the home games and so decided not to play for England at all.
Having said that, I'm only part way through the book so I don't have the full tale..

Re: KP out for the series
In terms of the KP situation, surely it should have been addressed earlier in the season, it's been an ongoing problem for a while hasn't it? He could have sat out other parts of the season to sort this, even the T20 which we were always going to do pretty crap in. But instead he misses the most important month or so in English cricket for the last few years. We wouldn't have cared if he had missed the next 18 months if he'd made it through these three Tests and helped us to victory, they need to identify who's to blame for this mess and show them the exit door.
And losing him is a double blow with Bell the almost certain replacement. If Australia could pick the England side themselves they'd want him in there, they know they can get at him, he doesn't handle the pressure well and has a very poor record against them. I'd rather have KP batting on one leg than Bell fully fit at the moment. The positive move would be to go for someone young and fearless who would take the game to the Aussies and not be weighed down by past failures, instead it's going to be Bell followed no doubt by Key and Shah if we need another batsman.
