Much of a muchness. I haven't seen much of Yousuf, but his stats are damn impressive. Let's see what the next couple of years brings.

Re: MoYo vs Ponting
Ponting has been more consistant, Moyo had a monster year, last year that's why his stats are very similar, still go with Ponting, but Moyo ain't far behind.

MoYo doesnt have a great record in either Australia or South Africa, which is a bit of a black mark against him. But then I guess Ponting doesnt have a great record in India. Ponting is just ahead at this stage.

But both are well behind KP, eh, Henry?

Re: MoYo vs Ponting
i would probably give ponting the edge right now as well. he seems to have churned out 2-3 big years recently. the next 2-3 could well decide this race
another remarkable similarity
home
yousuf - 65.25
ponting - 64.50
away
yousuf - 49.02
ponting - 51.34

You've just spent 8 forum pages arguing that KP is better than Ponting . . .

If we are going on current form neither Dravid or Tendy should be in there.
But if i had to pick 6 bats for my team in order of ranking i would go for:
1. Ponting
2. MoYo/Kallis
3. Dravid
4. Hussey
5. KP

Especially if he can keep knocking up those big double tons against Bangladesh.
SL must be playing them soon, after Oz and ENG is it?

On recent form - since Jan 1, 06 - and excluding Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, Sangakkara has 1127 @ 75.13. Pretty much deserving of being around the top five I'd say.

Yousuf facts:
Averages 29 against Australia.
Averages 29 against South Africa.
Averages 24 against Sri Lanka.
and
Averages 68 against Zimbabwe
Averages 101 against the Windies
Averages 251 against Bangladesh
Scored 2 centuries and 461 runs in the 2006 India/Pakistan series on some of the most shamefully batsman friendly pitches ever produced.
48% (11) of his 23 hundreds have come against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the Windies.
35% (2333) of his 6641 runs have come against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the Windies.
Without Bangladesh, Zim and the Windies his average drops to 45.
45! A monumental drop of more than 11 runs. Remove the joke series against India in 2006 and it drops further.
Averages 33 in Australia
Averages 34 in India
Averages 26 in South Africa
Averages 21 in Sri Lanka
But averages 65 in Pakistan (surprise)
There is no comparison with Ponting. Though Ponting has his own problems in his record, comparing him to Yousuf is like comparing George Foreman to Danny Williams. No comparison.

Wow have a cookie, so easy to highlight the holes but so difficult to highlight the good things, you can make most batsmen look ordinary with selective stats.
Only reason these two are being compared because they are the no.1/2 bats in the world atm and most people agree Ponting is better.

Re: MoYo vs Ponting
And if you really want to be funny with stats Ponting avgs 42 in Eng and Yousuf 65, Ponting avgs 12 in India and Yousuf avgs 53 blah blah i can't be arsed.
So you can be selective all you want, over the last 2 years these two have been neck and neck.
Ponting is no.1 and has been for a long time.

Re: MoYo vs Ponting
Selective? Those are his averages against each country. Saying that he averages 33 against Australia isn't selective. It's statistical analysis. Breaking down his statistics isn't "selective". The alternative is to look at his overall average and judge him by it, which is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
As for excluding the minnows, that's standard practice. And it doesn't make MoYo look ordinary. It makes him look a shambles. Follow the same analysis with Ponting and you will find that his record isn't comparable to Yousuf's at all.
Yes, most people agree that Ponting is better. I'm just pointing out that Ponting is miles better. It isn't even funny how much better he is.

Aye the guy is phenomenal and i think it will continue for a few more years yet, stats wise he will prob end up as the most prolific bat of all time.

MoYo is a very high quality player, 2nd best bat around. But Ponting is quite a bit better.

MoYo, as aesthetically pleasing as his batting is, has always had a touch of FTB about him. no comparison imo.

Ponting for me. Even before the run glut these two've enjoyed for the past two seasons or so, Ponting always looked to be the better bat, by far, regardless of any similarity their averages might've had.
