Hmmm, for England quite a few bats passed a milestone recently but here goes...

IR Bell 282 runs needed for 4000 ... 6 tests v Pak/Ban, nuff said
AJ Strauss 564 runs needed for 6000... during the Ashes perhaps.
MJ Prior 447 runs needed for 2000... during our summer.

MJ Hoggard 2 wickets needed for 250 ... Sniff.
JM Anderson 44 wickets needed for 200 ... possibly during Ashes tour
RJ Sidearse 21 wickets needed for 100 ... possibly during the 2017/18 SL tour
SJ Broad 17 wickets needed for 100 ... should be this summer
GP Swann 15 wickets needed for 100 ... ditto.

I may have been a tad harsh on Siddle in particular, and maybe Hauritz, in my assessments in post 2 of this thread.

Also, I generally over-estimated the alacrity of attainment of these milestones ... over-optimistic it seems ... although they all seem to have got there in the end. Kartically does that mean I was basically right?

Time for review anyway ... there has been good progress by some of the English and Indian batsmen in particular. Bump.

What's wrong with finishing on 248 Test wickets? Some pretty good company IIRC.

I imagine Swann could not score a single run or take a single wicket for over a year and his stats would still be better than Giles'.

It'd be difficult to be statistically worse. In terms of matches, it's difficult for Swann to match Giles' runs tally - Giles played 1.5 innings per match - Swann barely over one.

For the Australians, the only 'looming' bowling milestones are Hilfenhaus' 100 and Harris' 50 wickets; and the only batting milestones on the horizon are Hussey's 6000, Clarke's 7000, and Ponting's 14000 ... all a fair way away. Midge is only 10 wickets shy of 200 in Tests, but that seems unlikely ever to occur now.
