The most amazing thing about Steyn is that he's never really been out of form. He pretty much takes 5/110 in 35 overs every match.

Smith needs just 59 runs for the 3000 run milestone: hopefully I will see this at Trent Bridge after the debacle at Edgbaston.
Rogers needs 80 runs for the 2000 run milestone: this might take the rest of the series, or not occur at all, but given recent form, I wouldn't bet against this occurring at Trent Bridge. The NLWDVGL.
Looming milestones for English players, version 3:
Stokes needs 136 runs for 1000.
Broad needs 1 wicket for 300.
Finn needs 2 wickets for 100.
All are reasonably likely to occur at Trent Bridge.

Re: Test milestones
It's amazing how quickly Finn will have made it to 100 wickets, assuming he does it in the next match. 25 matches isn't quite troubling the fastest of all time but it is equal to or better than a fair number of all time greats (Ambrose, Akram, Walsh, Marshall to name but a few).
Considering he has been considered to be out of form for a very large chunk of his test career can imagine his numbers if his form doesn't drop?
He's still pretty young as well, has been around for years but at 26 if he stays fit and he stays playing well then he should easily make the 400 club, maybe even beyond.

From his action I suspect there will be too many injuries for that, but you never know.

400? And I thought you were staying clean these days.

Re: Test milestones
On here, players go from ATG to TAYPOC and back within the space of a few overs these days it seems.

Re: Test milestones
Finn's S/R is exceptional. For some reason I think he'll be one of those players that will blow hot and cold, so not sure he can be counted on for 400...

We all had Monty Panpissar getting 400 or 500 a few years back...

Re: Test milestones
I can't recall who it was, but about 2003 or so, someone confidently predicted that Freddy Flintoff & Steve Harmison would tear through 300 wickets easily, and that a young feller called Anderson wouldn't come close to 200. There was general agreement, but I took some stick at the time for dissenting.
To me, he was always the natural successor to Matthew Hoggard (who I did think was badly treated at the end of his career).

Smith still needs 48 runs for the 3000 run milestone: it looks a long way off now, but perhaps he will thrive on a flat Oval wicket after the two debacles at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge. Is he really our next captain? Perhaps Bangladesh is the place to turn it around. I suspect he will have a few of the Australia A squad under his command when he gets there ... Bancroft and Maddinson for starters; and perhaps Agar and Wade.
Rogers still needs 28 runs for the 2000 run milestone: I'm calling it now, he will fall just short. You just can't expect a 50 in every game from anybody. Still, it's been a good series for him, and he will be going out on top ... he's probably the only Australian batsman who can hold his head up as extracting the most from his ability. The NLWDVGL. I hope he gets to bowl in England's second innings here, if they have one and only have to chase 5 ...
Clarke: one Test match to go.
Looming milestones for English players, version 4:
Stokes still needs 131 runs for 1000. I reckon he'll get those at The Oval. This has been a real breakthrough series for the allegedly dentally challenged figure formerly at the centre of a threatened FB lawsuit

Rogers 2000 tick
Smith 3000 tick
Finn still needs 1 wicket for 100
Siddle is close to 1000 runs and 8 wickets from 200 wickets; probably a bit too far away
Stokes is close to 1000 runs but probably won't get there this game

Steak Knives is 1,339 runs away from reaching the 2000 run mark for the class bowling all rounder. At the current rate he will need another 40 tests.

Mitch Marsh now 6 runs away from 1000 Test runs - should make this in the 1st Test v South Africa
Shaun Marsh 79 off 2000 Test runs - should make this by the 2nd Test v South Africa
from further up the thread ...
Steven Finn still a long way off 400 Test wickets
Steyn's long history of Tests uninterrupted by injury is at an end, and we can all see whose fault that is

Smith 27 away from the 7000 mark. Remarkably, with so many of the old guard of Test batsmen having retired in recent years, he and Root are now the leading active players in terms of Test run aggregate.
