Re: The Wimbledon Thread - anyone for tennis?
I've already got a bit on a whitewash for England.
If we do any better I think we'll regard that as a good result.

Re: The Wimbledon Thread - anyone for tennis?
Incredibly, Roger Federer and his wife now have ANOTHER set of twins-

There must be at least ONE future Grand Slam champion there.

They can monopolise the finals of men's and women's singles, doubles and mixed doubles!
Has there ever been a "second generation" tennis player who's been that good though? Some sports have a tradition in that way, motorsport in particular (the money helps I suppose) and there's been a fair few in football and cricket, can't think of any tennis examples who've made it to the very top though.

Re: The Wimbledon Thread - anyone for tennis?
I did think of him actually... fairly modest record as a singles player (peak ranking 50) but won a doubles Slam title along with many other tournaments in that format.
Any father/son/mother/daughter etc. combinations who have both won singles GS titles, or been ranked top 10 or thereabouts? There probably were in the old amateur days I suppose.

Can't think of any others offhand. Golf is similar.

Can think of only one immediately, and that was during the Open Championship's infancy. Old and Young Tom Morris. St Andrews has honoured them with the eighteenth hole. The latter died aged 24 with 4 Open Championshps to his name.taipan wrote:Can't think of any others offhand. Golf is similar.

Yeah, plenty have become pros, but nobody's really succeeded since. Alejandro Canizares' father was a Ryder Cup player. The Stadlers.

Jay and Bill Haas are/were both pretty solid players, even if not major winners.tricycle wrote:Yeah, plenty have become pros, but nobody's really succeeded since. Alejandro Canizares' father was a Ryder Cup player. The Stadlers.

Javi's only an amateur.
