Re: US Open Tennis 2011
Didn't Serena threaten to kill a linesman the last time she was at the US Open?

Sam loses a match point.
Oh well, was a nice thought while it lasted.

She deserves a vote of thanks from tennis fans everywhere for the looks on Team William's faces alone.

Well done Sam. That's a monkey off the back of Australian Women's Tennis. It could even be described as a gorilla.

Poor Americans. First the terrorist attacks and now this. 11/9 is just unlucky for them I guess.

Poor vilky. A typical Englishman. Who has no clue what it feels like to share the nationality of a current Grand Slam Tennis champion.

To be fair the last time the Poms had a grand slam champion the game was pleyd in ankle length skirts.

Fair point Zat. I also don't know the feeling of losing 3 matches by an innings in a home ashes series. No Englishman does in fact. We can but hope, eh?
Glad Serena got beat anyway, made all the sweeter by her temper tantrum.

...struggle to imagine what it would be like to support a country that has twice been at the receiving end of whitewash series...

Wow, I've only just heard this on the news. I have to say I'm pleasantly shocked. I didn't expect Sammy to get anywhere near Serena. So the unlikeable Lleyton won THE Sept 11 Open, and the thoroughly likeable Sammy Stosur won the 10 year anniversary Sept 11 Open. Nice.

Nice to see someone win and not go into histronics like they just discovered an AIDS cure. Class act that lass.

Aye. Not bad for a shy girl who was a doubles specialist not all that long ago. I hope she goes far.

That's news to me - didn't think she was batting that way.

What - a fit wealthy young woman who will let you sleep with other chicks so long as she can join in?

Re: US Open Tennis 2011
Go Sammy!
At last year's Australian Open my cousin and I went to watch Sam on Centre Court in the early rounds. We'd managed to find some seats in the first row next to the players' box that were NEVER used. They were just excess media seats.
So we wangled our way down there and enjoyed the game from the first row. We got chatting to Sam's family - they were absolutely lovely. Security finally got on to us and asked us to move back to our own seats. Sam's family said we should sit with them - they had spare space. So we did. Meanwhile the security guard went back to check with his superior and came back a few games later. He told us if we didn't have a pass we'd have to leave.
So we were forced to move, even though Sam's family were pushing for us to be allowed to stay.
There are two points to this story: 1. Sam's family are genuinely nice people - she comes from good stock, and 2. I'm one of very few men who can legitimately claim to have been inside Sam's box!
