Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
It is baffling that England are insisting on playing a form of the game no-one else plays. Is it possible we'll give a player an ODI debut and it'll be the first 50 over game they've ever played at a recognised standard?
Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
It's not like England are the only country doing that. South Africa only play 40 over cricket, and in Australian domestic cricket they play games of 4 quarters FFS. Although I believe that has been declared an emphatic failure and they are reverting to 50 overs this season.

So Lancashire can now boast the cricket, football league, FA Cup and rugby league champions.
Is this area the sporting capital of Britain?

(Even if you'd be pushed to find a Lancastrian in the jolly ol' soccer.)

Anyway, no Glamorgan in the limited overs competitions next year... They will be the Welsh Dragons instead.
Is this a sign of things to come? London Lions versus, erm, Chelmsford Chavs perhaps...

Is he only 28? One of those players that seems to have been around forever.
Unless I'm thinking of someone else, in which case, he isn't.

I know.... FFS.
So we've gone from signing Mark Waugh, Allan Border & Ace Shah to signing......
* Greeeeeeg Smith *
Apparently Greg Smith shirts are all the rage down at the club shop.

93 wickets in Div 2 ain't worth more than 74 in Div 1. FFS, it's not as if Essex were within with a sniff of promotion.

And with the Tiflex .....
All right, I don't want to say DM hasn't meritied an award, on effort and application as much as wickets. I can understand that his fellow pros rate that highly. But given a higher bar, I doubt he would be quite so potent.

Is the County season over, or is there still some mopping up to do?

Yeah, I agree 74 wickets in div 1 is probably better, but 93 wickets just isn't to be sniffed at - who gives a flying f*ck if those wickets were taken in a promotion bid. And all I really need to say is 'Chris Wright'. It's all well and good ignoring a div 2 reject taking 22 relatively cheap wickets or even a novice like Keith Barker picking up sticks, but it lends your argument no credence.
Skulls, it is over, but some bitter people cannot drop it. Get over it lads, it's not serving you well........

Yeah, it needs to get dropped down now. I hate how this season turned out and want to forget it. Because next season will be a horror and this was our final chance to break out of the sh!t, get some more money and get some decent players.
Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
What's the long term solution for the smaller counties? Take the gamble and build a Test match ground? Will we eventually have 18 grounds of 15,000 plus competing for a game every 3 or 4 years?

There's not enough international cricket to go round to justify that sort of expense. Some counties would go bust if they tried. For non test grounds, I think the solution is lots of investment in their academies to bring forward their young players - who happen to be cheaper than imports and redevelop facilities as and when affordable. This is pretty much what Worcs have done.

We could always have 18 Tests per summer... Still, Lord's would get about 7 of them if that happened!
