Because, in the case of Andy Murray, who has won a massive two titles this year, his rather paltry earnings of $3.4 million US just aren't enough recompense for such a stellar performance.

Golf has an event every week but the players pick and choose which they wish to play (although they do have a defined off-season)

I don't know what the rate of pay is for being on a road repair crew, on the blunt end of a shovel/pick/jackhammer. But in Austalia, under most awards, your get four weeks of anual leave a year. Meaning you work 11 months. And I suspect that being on the operater's end of said construction equipment is a hell of a lot more hard work than being some sort of pampered softcock #4 in the world rankings tennis 'star', but it wouldn't go close to $3.4 mill for those 11 months.

The guys who started off the pro tour played the game week in, week out for very little recompense. Murray should read up on the history of the game and see what they went through to let him be pampered s0ckcock. They didn't have tiebreaks and didn't sit down when changing ends. Qunt.
