During the test i heard mention that Faulkner has a dislocated finger although i hav'nt read anything to confirm it.
Re: Australia v India, 1st Test, Melbourne, 26-30 December, 2011
I read an article quoting Rhino saying he thought he would ready to play. Not sure if e is going to play any cricket before then though.

On Inside Cricket the Bowlologist said as much. We won't dismiss India twice in any Test if roads are provided by the road-building curators at the MCG, SCG, WACA and the Adelaide Hwy.
thats pretty much india's only chance of winning the series as well. can't see our bowling getting 20 wickets on a road

Just heard Ed Cowan on the wireless.
I'm convinced. He needs to play in Melbourne.

I think he said he's 80% atm and will bowl in a Qld grade 20/20 this weekend (?)

And he also said his next injury would mean the end of it all.
Seems a bit risky to take a guy who is 80% fit with a history of injury into a boxing day test after one T20 grade match when he's said that the next injury will mean his retirement.

The selectors will be loath to make any more changes for fear of looking like they are panicking and for lack of suitable replacements.Henry wrote:Mickey Arthur (he is also a selector) said that both Ponting and Hussey had his backing. Whether that backing extends to John Inverarity remains to be seen.
Saw Phil Hughes being questioned by journalists as he walked through Sydney airport, and you would have thought he had been charged with a serious crime. Direct questions about his form were met with a glum look and a muttered "no comment."
Aus squad for T1 v Bannies:
GCS
Watto (Ed Cowans if he's still crocked)
Koaja
Drunky
Pup
Paris
Haddit (they may chuck him and go with Wade but I think they'll wait until Paine is fit to flick the Spiv)
Rhino
Cot
OP
Elmer
why should Koo go?..has done nothing wrong....surely other spivs should go before him...Harris is a crock

It is surely better to play the new version of Bruce Reid than the new version of Mitchel Johnson

But do Aus want to rush him back and get one test out of him this series before he breaks down again? Or do they want to give him some more time, get him 100% fit, select him for Perth, and get two tests out of him before he breaks down again?

I reckon don't risk him for the first test if it is going to be tight. Better to have him for 3 full tests.
I also like the thought of having a lefty bowling to the Indians on bouncier Aust pitches - Sehwag in particular.

Extract from the article BA posted on the Slater thread:
Also appearing on 2KY Cowan said there were issues that had not been addressed in the Australian cricket fixtures for this summer.
However, he believes the two month break for Sheffield Shield means it is up to the individual players to maintain their red-ball form game during the Big Bash.
"At the start of the year when the fixture list came out I actually wrote an article on Cricinfo saying it's disconcerting, more so for the bowlers," Cowan said of the Big Bash schedule.
"There is a little bit of an issue, I guess it is up to the individual to realise if you are a chance to play Test Cricket then you have to stay fit and keep your red ball cricket very active."

Thats seriously dire stats from one of all time greats.Averages 25 in his last 15 tests.
BTW, assuming he retires after India series and doesn't do too well in it, does it mean he won't remain an ATG then?

given Harris is a day to day proposition, if he plays in melbourne we will need an all rounder as backup - one of christian, macdonald or maxwell....if hilditch was still chair Reeks would get the nod

For the aussie forumers
Given I see Matthew Newton has been again charged with assault today (allegedly hit a cabbie), maybe Warner's nickname should become Matty N - always goes the bash!
