Plus I remember having an argument as to who wrote the songs? Barnesy or Mossy.
Must have been a good argument ....

I think you've misunderstood the title of the thread although there are a couple there that could stay.

Going back to the thread title, i cant understand the popularity of Nick Cave.
He has a crap voice & his songs are so depressive.
He is the musical equivalent of a Dentist Drill.

I'm probably the only forummer who was a Railroad Gin fan.
I think it might be a Brisbane thing. I also think Ian Healy is a comic genius.

Coincidentally I think I might have been in Brisbane for that ten minutes also. Besides RG the other Next Big Thing around at the time was 'Rabbit', whose name was not enough to breed success.
The RG singer's name was Carol something, she sounded vaguely like Janis Joplin. If they'd ever had a reunion gig and Carol something couldn't make it, Ian 'Bawling Shine' Healy would have been an adequate stand-in.

Just had a look on YouTube to see if they had any Gin & found A Matter Of Time.
And .........
...... at the side, in the "related" videos, there was one of Clodagh Rodgers singing her 1971 hit "I've got the Jack in My Box". Haven't heard that in ages. They don't write songs like that anymore!

U2 - rather stick a fork in my ear
Nickelback - bastard seppo child of Radiohead and U2
I have never understood the appeal of U2, rate Nickelback though
And lardy and I had a discussion about Coldplay, another band I like. Needless to say, he feels they are no Little Feet.
Lardy attempted to "educate" me in real music on a pissy Friday night in Hobart, as he proudly showed me the 7,700 songs he had on his Macbook. I think we listened to bits of about 5000 of them. [awaits lardy's indignant response ]
I think we worked out that other than a few Beatles songs, the only song we had in common on our respective mp3 playlists was Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street.
I knew you were drunk, but not that drunk.

Most would think "Nickelback fan" is more insulting.

Nickelback are like the town idiot; you can feel sorry for them, but you can't really hate them.

Masters Apprentices

ANGELS!!
Hunters And Collectors
Split Enz
Loved Ones
AC DC
Streets
Ayers Rock
Coloured Balls
The Church
Powderfinger
Regurgitator
The Triffids
Australian Crawl
Dragon
Cat Empire
etc etc
Anyway, as skully says, to each his own

Not to mention Black Sorrows, Redgum, Little Heroes, Goanna, the various Paul Kelly vehicles, or from an earlier era Axiom, Country Radio, the Aztecs, Daddy Cool, countless Broderick Smith outfits....Icehouse had one classic (Walls), one very good song (GSL) and about 321 hours of elevator music.
