Can't see Barton being sold. Who'd buy him? He's a liability.
Newcastle cancelled his contract and released him on a free. And QPR took a chance. Wouldn't surprise me if QPR now do the same thing and one of the newly promoted clubs (he's got West Ham written all over him) take a similar punt.
A liability, but he'll be one of the better players in the bottom third of the table.

sounds like Barton will be rubbed out for a while

Barton's finished - who the hell is going to take a punt on him?
People have been saying that after every misdemeanour, though. And yet he's still playing at the top level. Football has no moral code. Marlon King remains in gainful employment in the Championship, despite convictions for 14 offences, doing time in prison on two occasions for receiving stolen goods and for sexual assault and ABH.
Lee Hughes killed a guy with his car and fled the scene. Upon his release from prison, vowing that he'd seen the error of his ways, he had no trouble finding a club. He's currently out on bail, facing sexual assault charges...
Football clubs will sign whoever they can get their hands on.

JGK wrote:Pah. 2 goals in extra time in the last game of the season to win the title on goal difference is jammy by any measure.
Not the measure of time, as a goal scored in the 95th minute has the same numeric value as one scored in the 1st.
And there's nothing jammy about winning a title on goal difference when the reason your goal difference is so superior to your rivals' is because you aggregated 7-1 against them in head to head matches over the course of the season.
So that's two measures at least.

I liked when his girlfriend couldn't work out how to make the camera zoom in.
Two laptops on the go - one for twitter and one for Facebook. As if you needed any further proof of what kind of people United fans are.

That was one of the grousest days of sport ever - Dragon's upset the Bears to get through to the GF against the Coastal Filth (where we woz robbed by the tackle that wasn't called just before HT), go and have a curry in Surry Hills and then back to the SCG for the Bombers game where Red and White prevailed over Red and Black yet again.

Didn't even notice that, pmsl !
Still think the big lad took it too well, wondering if that was staged and he'd sky+ it.

I thought about you during the 5 added minutes. Not in a sexual way, like.
Congrats man, now you can await all the guffaws from the other premiership big boys going on about 'bought' titles. Which amuses me given that's how the Premiership as a whole have treated football since 1992.

Where've you been, qunty? People could draw all sorts of conclusions by your sudden return!!!
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
Pity the following week in 1996 wasn't so good. I left a Grand Final party after Manly scored that try just before half time, to raucous boos from my mates. Nathan Brown tackled Slimbag Ridge, then rolled off him, Ridge got up and ran and the idiot ref called play on. He got beyond the quarter line and Manly scored from the next play. I said that'll do me. The AFL Granny was no better.JGK wrote:skully wrote:Yeah, you're right, Ponts. Got my two AFL moments mixed up. We lost the Granny that Plugger got us into. Aye taips, like the two people at work who are shagging on the quiet yet happen to turn up at work at the same time. Freakish.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
You'll be shocked to learn that I had to pick up a new work phone last week and it is a touch screen Blackberry. All a bit meh really.taipan wrote:Brass Monkey wrote:Dello wrote:

Had you given it up Jonty? I may well have turned off the TV if that was my side. I guess you were there so had no choice to stay.

I was working out how I would cope with throwing it away to a side with the worst away record in the division down to 10 men, and to the doubtless gloating reds to boot, JK.
I can safely say that Aguero's goal has now replaced Harmison's wicket of Kasprowicz in 2005 as the greatest sporting experience of my life.
