Is appointing Rodgers the managerial equivalent of buying Henderson and Charlie Adam?

Well, it's a gamble. But so would be anyone else available to them, they're an 8th place side, they're not going to attract a Mourinho or Guardiola right now.

It could backfire badly if the senior players don't buy into his methods, and we will have to wait and see if the owners are true to their word and give him time if they don't get any closer to threatening the top four next season. But it's good to see a young home-grown manager getting a shot at a high profile job, when the standard approach is to automatically look abroad because British managers are seen as hoof-ball, teacup-throwing football dinosaurs. That's why we have so few candidates for the England job... I know Rodgers is Northern Irish, but hope if it comes off then more "big" clubs will look closer to home in future.

England 1 Belgians 0

Hodgson wants England to play like chelski clearly. Nick a goal and be very hard to break down.

Makes sense really, this is the most limited England squad I can remember. If your job was to win a tournament you would set out to play tippy tappy against France & co would you.

That's it... England are basically the international WBA.

Did King Kenny ever achieve any managerial success at Liverpool? He had several stabs at it, no?

His first spell was very good. 3 league titles and one or two FA cups, and I think they were not in Europe because of Heysel.

Dalglish inherited a good team at Liverpool but he didn't have the brains to bring in fresh players. When the going got tough, so did he.

A bit harsh given that the end of his first reign was overshadowed by Hillsborough, but it's fair enough to say he left an ageing team and some ordinary players for his successor Souness, who gratefully took the opportunity to accelerate their decline!

It just happened that this period coincided with the start of the big money Premier League and the rise of Fergie's Man Utd, so was perhaps the defining power shift in English football.

Yeah, he always gave Hillsborough as his excuse for leaving. It was just a bit of a co-incidence that he joined Blackburn within a couple of months. Of course when the money dried up there he did another disappearing act. Not to mention Newcastle and Celtic.

Oh yeah, Celtic was his biggest disaster, but taking John Barnes with him has to be largely to blame!

Maybe he could go back there for another go (minus Barnes) if Lennon does go to Norwich, surely nobody could fail as Celtic manager, in domestic terms, over the next few years?

Gary Megson could.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18624174

Ryan Giggs, Micah Richards and Craig Bellamy selected as the older players for the GB squad, no Becks. I know it's supposed to be about picking the best team and the fact that he helped with the bid shouldn't have any bearing on whether he was selected... But Craig Bellamy?

Also it's the Olympics, not the World Cup, so f*ck what I just said, he should have been picked, spirit of the Olympics and what not.

Having said that, I haven't seen him play for years and I can't imagine he would have gained any pace, so f*ck what I just said, nice one psycho on not being overly sentimental.

Bellamy can't play two games in a row for Liverpool, due to his chronic knee problem.

A great selection...
