Re: The Walking Dead
Only ever watched first half of first season of WD but has anyone ever played The Last of Us on PS? Never been a gamer (apart from Mario Kart, Goldeneye 64 etc back in the day) but it's incredible. I completed it on easy (because I'm terrible at adult games) but the story is superb. Like playing a film of the zombie apocalypse.

Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 are where I get my zombie gaming fix.
No real story to speak of, but a bunch of wicked, chaotic missions and an excellent array of weaponry.

You should give the game a go Nath. It's all about the atmosphere, tension and the amazing score, not just the story. Half an hour in and you will be hooked. I'm not a gamer so don't know much but I can't imagine a better game.

Re: The Walking Dead
Fear the Walking Dead's six-episode teaser season came to a close on Sunday (decent, albeit with a fair sprinkling of usual TWD stupidity and inconsistent writing), and the main event returns this week.
Re: The Walking Dead
S06E01. OK.
- Spoiler:
- In a jump back and forward ep (recent past in B&W - present in colour), we slowly build to the A-team and Alexandria recruits attracting a massive horde towards a quarry (already full of walkers) where presumably they want to blow the shit out of all of them. The plan is farked at the last minute when a horn goes off in Alexandria (bet it's that little qunt Ron - Peter's son - who is pissed with Rick for shooting his Dad in last season's finale).
Developments - Nick seems to have realised what a pussy he was letting Noah die and trying to lead Glenn to his death, and wants redemption. Tara revives and she and Maggie are best friends. Morgan is onboard but worried about some of Rick's actions, as it seems are Michonne and Daryl. We meet Heath, who has returned from scouting and looks to be a strong character.
Carter whined all through the ep. Thank fark he got bit then Rick knifed him in the back of the neck to shut his walker-attracting girly screams.
Line of the episode - "Thank God your hair survived" - awake Tara to a delighted Eugene. Â

Aye Trev. I found it a tad slow, although the future mixed with the past was a nice twist.

Re: The Walking Dead
Oh dear, arty black and white time shifts to try and draw attention away from a weak plot.
Cutting out all the fluff, the entire episode was thus:
Not a promising start. What was the plan anyway?
Anyway, it's back. As stupid as ever, but it's back.
Cutting out all the fluff, the entire episode was thus:
- Spoiler:
- They inexplicably tried to lure a mob of zombies away from their camp. A horn went off. Tits went up.
Not a promising start. What was the plan anyway?
- Spoiler:
- They were going to coral a huge number of walkers and send them on their way and, what, just assume that there's no chance of them ever turning around and coming back en masse? "Don't worry, we're safe now - they're looking the other way."
If a car horn can grab the attention of the walkers, what about all that gunfire in the Glenn subplot, in which our brilliant heroes decided the best way to quieten the sound of some knocking on windows would be to shoot the gaff up in a hail of noise? And what about the flare guns? It was established long ago that the walkers don't see very well - they're more attracted by sound. So what kind of a plan was it to fire flares into the air from BEHIND THE WALL that they were supposed to be leading them away from? It should've been the sound of the gun that they were attracted to.
Of course, the newly erected wall that they cobbled together in 24 hours brings on another question. If they could do that, why couldn't they have gone to the quarry and reinforced the lorries that were holding the hoard in? Wouldn't that have made more sense, bought them a bit of time to come up with a better plan? They had the high ground, they could've taken shifts with a rifle to pick off, say, a couple of hundred walkers per day.
Anyway, it's back. As stupid as ever, but it's back.

Re: The Walking Dead
S06E02. Pretty good.
- Spoiler:
- The horn that distracted the horde turns out to be from a crashed truck the Wolves were trying to use to ram their way into Alexandria. Led by the remainder of the A-team (Carl, Carol, Maggie, etc) the Alexandrians fight of the blood-thirsty Wolves, who just want to kill and take over. Morgan scares many off with his stick skills. They have clearly encountered him before.
Morgan clearly has a "do not kill" mantra but is forced to kill one final non-fleaing Wolf.
Ep started with Enid's backstory and how she came to be at Alexandria. She leaves against Carl's wishes to pursue her ongoing solo survival. She has a habit of leaving initials "JSS" everywhere - "Just Survive Somehow" - which is the note she leaves Carl.
I expect the horde will be on Alexandria by the begin of Ep 3.

Re: The Walking Dead
It wasn't until the horn sounded that we could actually orientate where the episode was within the timescale. So...
- Spoiler:
- ... the gang are in the midst of a delicate, one-mistake-and-we're-all-dead plan to corral thousands of walkers around the perimeter of Alexandria. Are the Alexandrians waiting nervously inside the walls, strapped to the nines with weapons, ready to defend themselves if this hugely ambitious and dangerous plan goes South and the walkers descend on them? Are they clubbed together in support, anxiously hoping that their respective beloveds return in one piece?
Don't be silly. They're baking and giving each other hair cuts. Because, of course they are.
Re: The Walking Dead
Well, it would appear they've killed off one of the show's longest-running major characters.....
- Spoiler:
- But I've got a feeling that Glenn will have made a miraculous and quite frankly ridiculously implausible escape, as we are not entirely sure whether it was his, or Nicholas's guts that the hundreds of walkers were feasting on. No way should he have feasibly survived being completely surrounded by about 100 walkers- I mean, even if they're mostly focussed on Nicholas's intestines, surely one of the 100 or so walkers would at least get a bite into Glenn?? And as we know, one bite is all it takes. But the show probably demands he survives.
The more I think about it, the more I refuse to believe they would have Glenn effectively being killed by Nicholas- The guy who tried to kill him, and whom Glenn forgave, ending it all by shooting himself and dragging Glenn onto the ground with him. Nah. What injustice! There would be riots in TV land. Glenn will roll under the dumpster and find a hole in the fence whilst the distracted walkers feast on Nicholas. Glenn- The great survivor. You watch. It will be the most ridiculous and unlikely major character escape of the whole show, but escape he will.

Aye Trev...
Next week looks like a Morgan retrospective.
- Spoiler:
- I'm going with "it were Nicholas' guts the walkers were feasting on" as the suicider laid on top of Glenn. But maybe they felt it was time a major character was killed off?
And how will Rick escape? Perhaps to the house with the red roof?
Next week looks like a Morgan retrospective.

The TV reviews are unanimous...
- Spoiler:
- ...Glenn is dead. Having rewatched the scene, there's no evidence that the guts being extracted by shufflers are NOT Glenn's.
Still, I live in hope.

Re: The Walking Dead
Well I think they are wrong because......
- Spoiler:
- it's just such an underwhelming way to kill off a major character. How can they continue the episode after Glenn's apparent 'death' with Machone and co strolling through the Forrest encountering the odd walker, like Glenn's death wasn't the biggest event to happen since....ever? He would be the biggest name to be killed off so far. Glenn is arguably the third most popular character on the whole show ever after Darryl and Rick. His real death is season finale material. Besides, there was no one around to witness it, which means no slow motion tears and embraces from Maggie and co. It will just be like- "where's Glenn? Has anyone seen him? Oh....I guess he's dead??" Trust me- Glenn is alive. If he IS dead, it's a horribly botched major character killing.

I think he got killed off in the comics. So there's been an axe hanging over his head for a while. I can't think of any barely plausible way he can survive.

That makes it all the better - the fact that it was so unexpected, slap bang in the middle of an early-season episode. It pulls the rug out from under the viewers, ramps up the jeopardy by suggesting no-one is safe.
I said all along the quarry plan was total nonsense.

90 minute episode. Don't think he's that interesting a character to get an extended show all to himself. Suspect it'll be Morgan flashbacks, telling his tale, whilst jumping to the present frequently to deal with the fallout of the inept Walker wrangling - and Morgan's own contribution to the attacks by the Wolves, as a result of letting various people live when he had the option of taking them out.
Re: The Walking Dead
- Spoiler:
- Maggie will be in trouble if Glenn's dead (which he is). She's not much of a stand-alone character. She's always been someone's something (Hershel's daughter, Beth's sister, Glenn's spunk receptacle). Now she's got no story, once the grieving bit is all done. I'm tipping her as another cast regular to bite the big one this season.

Re: The Walking Dead
Whoopsie. I'm new to all this.
Anyway:
Comic book spoiler:
Anyway:
- Spoiler:
- Having had a bit of a look around the internet, the prevailing opinion is that the show is going to pull a fast one and have Glenn somehow survive. Eagle-eyed viewers think they saw him sort of scoot under the dumpster during the final shot from above of the herd overwhelming him and Nicholas (whose guts were the ones they were really eating).
It'd be a hell of a cop out - and how is going to survive under the dumpster anyway, given that he's totally surrounded by hundreds of Walkers on all sides? Are they just going to eat Nicholas and lose interest? Sounds bullshitty to me.
Comic book spoiler:
- Spoiler:
- Glenn was actually killed by a human, a character we've yet to meet, called Negan. He's rumoured to be turning up this season on TV. Perhaps the writers are f*cking with the audience, giving them a Glenn fake-out death, only to then bump him off a few weeks later.
Of course, the TV show doesn't follow the comics to the letter, if at all. The Governor beheaded Tyreese not Hershel in print, yet he lived for another season or so on the tele (before inexplicably getting bit in a standard, run-of-the-mill house search).
We shall see.
Re: The Walking Dead
So will Carol eventually go completely crazy? It seems she's hanging by a thread at the moment. I reckon that would be a good story- Her going from meek housewife to the next 'Governor'.
