You do wonder how the PM's office thought this was actually going to go...

PM Facebook chat descends into abuse

October 8, 2012 - 5:03PM
Bianca Hall

A Facebook question-and-answer session hosted by the Prime Minister descended into personal abuse today, as the row over Alan Jones' comments about Julia Gillard's family continues to rage.

But Ms Gillard’s office said the Facebook event, which was the first time a federal politician has engaged in such a session, was a popular success and only a ‘‘tiny minority’’ of comments were negative.

Participants in the online event made sexist and at times lecherous comments about Ms Gillard, with one even asking her: "How's your dad?"

Sydney shock-jock Alan Jones today hosted his first show without advertising, after Maquarie Radio Network temporarily suspended all ads for the show.

Advertisers had abandoned Mr Jones' show in droves after it was revealed he told a Sydney University Liberal function two weeks ago Ms Gillard's father had died of "shame" at his daughter's "lies".

But while Mr Jones' comments drew widespread disgust and consternation about the deteriorating tone of Australian politics, only several Facebook users condemned the man, Matthew Van Den Bos, who made the comment today.

The session appeared to have been unmoderated, despite Ms Gillard's office managing the Facebook account.

Ms Gillard had called the event to talk to constituents about the government's desire to implement the Gonski school funding reforms. She also answered questions on NAPLAN, teacher quality and supporting regional and disadvantaged children.

A spokesman for the government said: ‘‘This is the first federal question-and-answer session by a major political figure in Australia – it is the first of its kind. There was a huge response in terms of questions; there’s been a lot more that have been tabled for future use. There is a tiny minority of offensive comments and they are moderated after being published.’’

After answering about a dozen questions over about an hour, Ms Gillard thanked people for their questions and signed off. But once she was no longer answering questions, the session descended into vitriol.

"McPiss off you red-headed bloody McClown," wrote a Nicholas Frampton.

One man, Clifford Cowl, told the Prime Minister, "Get my dinner ready", while "Adam Subwoofer Hodgson" asked: "Are your pubes as radiant, shiny and glorious as mine?"

It is not the first time abusive material has appeared on the Prime Minister's page, with one man calling last week for the government to "bring in anal probing for all boat people and people claiming benefits".

Looks like poor James Ashby has found a friendly shrink...

Ashby considered driving into truck: psychiatrist

October 8, 2012 - 5:44PM
Paul Bibby

James Ashby the former adviser to the Speaker of Parliament, Peter Slipper, is suffering from "chronic and pervasive mental health symptoms" and has considered driving into an oncoming truck, as a result of the actions of his former boss, a psychiatrist says.

The revelations come from new court documents relating to Mr Ashby's sexual harassment claim against Mr Slipper in the Federal Court.

Among the documents is a psychological report in which Clinical Associate Professor Jonathan Phillips states that, as a result of his "relationship" with Mr Slipper, Mr Ashby is suffering from an "adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood".

"The main cause for Mr Ashby's psychological decompensation in late 2011/early 2012 was the psych trauma which he experienced in his personal relationship with Mr Slipper," Associate Professor Phillips said.

"I believe it can reasonably be stated that ... Mr Ashby's clinical decompensation has been caused by the actions/activities/comment of Mr Slipper in a situation where there was a great power imbalance between the two persons."

The report also notes that, during the course of two consultations with Associate Professor Phillips, Mr Ashby reported feeling "withdrawn and fearful" and experiencing "a strong wish to drive his car in front of an ongoing truck".

Mr Ashby reportedly said the reason he had not done so was "because it would involve trauma for the truck driver".

The 26-year-old reported that he was drinking up to six standard drinks a night in the form of pre-mixed bourbon drinks and was suffering from a number of physical symptoms which he attributed to his plight, including "blood in his urine, almost constant nausea and recurrent diarrhoea".

"He now ives with a sense of fear, particularly that he never be alone because of the risks that might occur in that situation," Associate Professor Phillips said.

"Perhaps Mr Slippers actions on their own do not amount to much but when the Speaker's behaviour and text messages are taken together, they appear not to have been or a proper professional type ... but highly personalised, provocative, sexualised and occasionally of a threatening type."

Mr Ashby is also said to be angry about what he describes as his "exposure" in The Australian newspaper, describing himself as having been "outed", with inference that he was a "filthy homosexual".

Associate Professor provided what he described as a "caveat" to his report.

"The applicant on several occasions joined in a text conversation with the Speaker which was somewhat provocative and sexualised ... I believe that it has to be said that at least at certain times the applicant added to the frission of the interchange."

He also noted that his findings were based entirely on the version of events and the symptoms reported to him by Mr Asbhy and that he had no corroborating evidence.

The Prime Minister's office knew EXACTLY how it would go. They're just trying to make her out to be the poor innocent victim since the Alan Jones comments, hoping it will lead to a sympathetic bounce in the polls.

Labor can't even get their personal attacks on the opposition leader right. They pushed the whole "Tony Abbott has a problem with women" line too far, and it became obvious that it was a tactic being used to hide the Government's own significant failings. They can't be subtle and cunning about anything, can they.

They are simply destined to lose the next election, because time and time again, they emphatically prove their incompetence.

Roxon noses around Slipper case

"ATTORNEY-GENERAL Nicola Roxon personally intervened in the sexual harassment case against Peter Slipper by briefing lawyers defending the Speaker, whose misogynist and degrading attitudes to women have been exposed in a new trove of sexually explicit texts.

In a text exchange between Mr Slipper and former staffer James Ashby, Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella is referred to as an "ignorant botch (sic)" when she was thrown out of the House of Representatives on the day of the carbon tax vote in October last year.

The texts released by the court show Mr Slipper repeatedly made allusions to the sexuality of his staffer, who is suing him for sexual harassment, inquiring whether he had "f . . kbuddies" and asking him for drinks at gay bars. Mr Slipper also makes humiliating references to women's genitalia. "They look like a mussell (sic) removed from its shell. Look at a bottle of mussel meat! Salty C . . ts in brine!" he texted to Mr Ashby."

----------------------------------------------------------

Seems Slipper is way worse than anything the Pinkos can pin on Abbott. Ya gotta wonder at the stoopidity of this arseclown. A high office holder sending fruity and degrading text messages when he should know these things remain in cyberspace forever.

And this coming from a man who broke down in court saying how much he loved his wife. Please. What a grub. And he clearly prefers starfish to mussels.*

* Not that there's anything wrong with that, just makes his court tears laughable.

Sage. And jayzus they have a lot of ads, so Gloria would've had to double the amount of jibber he spewed.

Did anyone see the snotty "Destroy the joint" biatch on the Nooz?

"THE organiser of an anti-sexism Facebook group, set up after Alan Jones declared women were "destroying the joint", says she will be reporting three "serious" threats to police tomorrow.

The "Destroy the Joint" group, which has more than 14,000 Facebook members and 1700 Twitter followers, tonight said it had received "a very large volume of comments from people best described as trolls" following comments Alan Jones made on Sydney's 2GB today.

The page's creator, Sydney University of Technology academic Jenna Price, said she would be seeking legal advice and speaking to police tomorrow about three threats made against the page's organisers.

She said had been also been called "a dyke, a slut and a liar" by people online.

"They've said they hope I die," Ms Price told The Age tonight."
