Indeed. She's as big a grub as him. Chris Smith looked like he wanted to give her a backhand such was her smarminess.

Henry wrote:Labor can't even get their personal attacks on the opposition leader right. They pushed the whole "Tony Abbott has a problem with women" line too far, and it became obvious that it was a tactic being used to hide the Government's own significant failings. They can't be subtle and cunning about anything, can they.
They are simply destined to lose the next election, because time and time again, they emphatically prove their incompetence.

Radio rival gives away an Alan Jones 'car and driver'
October 9, 2012 - 10:51AM
Giles Hardie
You know you're under fire when even the Triple M Grill Team are taking the moral high ground.
Triple M's breakfast radio team have today announced a competition, "Car for Comment", giving listeners the chance to benefit from the loss of its rival, Sydney breakfast radio "shock jock" Alan Jones.
“Jonesy's been a bit in the poo lately, but who hasn't?” Grill Team DJ Matty Johns began the segment.
“Jonesy's lost his car, but you know the old saying, 'one man's loss is another man's gain',” Johns continued, before announcing that the program will be giving away "Alan Jones's Mercedes Benz and driver".

The prize is use of an S-class Mercedes for the weekend, including chauffeur. Triple M have confirmed that the prize is, unsurprisingly, a car and a driver — not the actual ones used by Jones, although Johns added that the car has an “all-leather interior, including the driver, who may be dressed in leather”.
To win, listeners must appear on any another radio station and “say nice things about the Triple M Grill Team”, explained Grill Team's Mark Geyer.
The show then played some sound-clips of this being done in the past on shows on rival stations.
Jones, whose breakfast show is on 2GB, was forced by sponsor Mercedes-Benz to return his free car amid the public furore over his comment at a fundraising event that Prime Minister Julia Gillard's father had "died of shame".

Quite frequently he uses his power for good and donates time and publicity to charities and the like.
Which makes his quntishness all the more disappointing.

hmmnn...the criminal Richard Pratt also did heaps for charity - one estimate was he gave away $130m but then again he made $750M in the price fixing episode ..

Quote from Abbott today re Slipper:
Another day of shame for a government that should already have died of shame.

And Gillard's response:
The government isn't dying of shame.
My father did not die of shame.
What the Leader of the Opposition should be ashamed of is his performance in this parliament and the sexism he brings with it.
Sexism should always unacceptable. We should conduct ourselves as if it is always unacceptable. He could change a standard himself if he sought to do so. He's capable of double standards, but incapable of change

I think they will pressure him to resign - probably after the Court case which will inevitably be thrown out. They'll also make sure he can go on a couple more junkets so he doesn't quit Parliament before next year.

Aye, he'll be put out to pasture once he's no longer of use. It does raise the question of just how much time is wasted in debating pointless exercises. Still, it's all about point-scoring.

Albanese was seen imploring the other Indies and the Greenskin to bide their time. He dodged a bullet, but Slipper is clearly a dead man walking.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (VI)
I guess it is a more emphatic sorry than we got from AJ:
Speaker Peter Slipper has unreservedly apologised for sexist text messages he sent to his staffer James Ashby, saying that while they were private, ''nothing excuses their content''.
In a short statement this afternoon, Mr Slipper noted that ''in recent days, court proceedings have led to the public release of text messages reported to be between Mr James Ashby and me''.
The release of the messages, tendered as evidence in the Federal Court, have been condemned by both sides of politics and offensive and sexist.
Among the messages, Mr Slipper referred to female genitalia as ''shell-less mussels''.
Following their release, the Coalition today tried unsuccessfully to have Mr Slipper sacked from the speakership, with Opposition Leader Tony Abbott arguing he had ''failed the character test.''

Mr Slipper - who was in Canberra today - but not in the chamber for the vote, said that the text messages in question were intended to be private.
''It was intended at the time that text messages be private between Mr Ashby and me,'' he said.
Nevertheless, Mr Slipper said that nothing excused the content of the messages.
''A number of these text messages refer to women and nothing excuses their content .... I understand why people, particularly women, would be offended by these statements and I unreservedly apologise for them.''
Mr Slipper's statement made no reference to the motion which narrowly failed, 69 votes to 70, to sack him from the speakership this afternoon.
