6. Monkey is half right. But earlier.
5. Wally is on the button, or rather, all the buttons. The one that counts is near the end of the article he links. It has all to do with Edgar Willsher's contribution, and how the furore of and arising from this match led directly on to a fundamental "overhaul" of the game at the start of the 1864 English season.
4. Clue. Something Australian. The ("And no others") was a first hint.

Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
wiki:
- Spoiler:
- John Frederick Sackville, 3rd Duke of Dorset, famous for both his cricket connections and his ambassadorship to France, tried to organise a tour of France by a team of English cricketers. The team, which included William Yalden, assembled in London and travelled to Dover where, unexpectedly, they met the Duke himself coming the other way. He was fleeing for his life from the French Revolution. So the intended first-ever overseas tour became instead the first tour to be cancelled for political reasons.

Fromage was desperate to answer, but simply couldn't bring itself to do so.

Easy when you know them (or google) ...
7. Who was the first English bowler to be called for chucking in a Test match in England?
8. Who are the current Olympic silver medal holders in cricket?

There are no laws governing the use or abuse of spoilers.
You spoil or despoil as you see fit.
Or unfit.

Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
I suppose putting answers in spoilers is done as a sort of courteous fiction: that others might want to try their luck, judgment, knowledge and skill first, before checking what answers others might have.
Spoilering it so as not to spoil it, for others.
But I haven't been consistent in this myself.
Probably recognising the likely fictional part of the courtesy, in places.
Some are more scrupulous (Wally, Danny, Trike, for instance). Neatly spoilered.
Others just blunder on like Dumbo, with smaller ears, in an Indian restaurant.
And others again just leave it well alone.
As they see fit.
Or not.
Hey ho, it's a forum. Nobody has to.

TBF, being one of those computing gimps, I'm pretty much writing code all day - all those weird symbols come naturally - I never use the highlight and press shortcut button method (i.e bold, italic blah blah) - I type out the tables I do etc... it comes naturally - I've forgotten what it's like to be 'normal' in that regard.

Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
9 What was the origin (who was the originator) of the phrase "flat-track bully"?
10 In the following quotation, one word is wrong. a. Which word, and b. (in the corrected version), who said it?
I just wonder what your Prime Minister thinks about the crowd abuse. I wonder whether he's very proud of the English spectators during this series. It's a gladiator sport out there. It's like being thrown into the lions' den, and we're on a hiding to nothing. The crowd have got the thumbs-down situation - "Kill! Kill! Destroy!"
11. (Exactly the same as 10:)
India's batsmen seem to get whipped more often than a saucepan full of spuds these days and when you look at their attack, it looks like a makeshift outfit that couldn't win an argument with a drover's dog.
12. (As for 10 & 11 - one word is wrong, a. which word?; b. it was written by whom?; but also a third question, c: Who was this tribute written about?)
Everything he did was marked with a natural grace, apparent at first sight. When he walked out to bat, five feet tall, lithe but with adequately wide shoulders, he moved with long strides which, even when he was hurrying, had an air of laziness, the hip joints rippling like those of a great cat. He was, it seems, born with basic orthodoxy in batting; the fundamental reason for his high scoring lay in the correctness of his defence. Once he was established, his sharp eye, early assessment, and inborn gift of timing, enabled him to play almost any stroke. (...) When he stepped out and drove, it was with a full flow of the bat in the calssical manner, to a complete follow-through. When he could not get to the pitch of the ball, he would go back, wait - as it seemed, sometimes impossibly long - until he identified it and then, at the slightest opportunity, with an explosive whip of the wrists, hit it with immense power. His quick reactions and natural ability, linked with his attacking instinct, made him a brilliant improviser of strokes. When he was on the kill, it was all but impossible to bowl to him - and he was one of the most thrilling of batsmen to watch.
13. What did the manager of Sri Lanka A suggest his batsmen should do if they were sworn at by the bowlers and fielders of the visiting England A team in 1991?

Doubtful - it means it's less of a hassle - I can imagine it's quite difficult to f*ck around with forum shit if you're not as au fait with tapping. Fair play to everyone that isn't but they have a stab.
I'm actually an underachiever. I worked out that out of my 31 years, I've been using keyboards intermittently for 27 of them. I should be better than I am. Unfortunately, I've got twat-hands, not capable of anything deft at all. Couldn't even tie a balloon end for years. Don't think my brain grew with my body.
Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
A query- How many fielders would take the field in an eleven vs twenty two (like the early overseas tours) match when the team with eleven were batting?
