Gotto love this line from the Conn article:
In the meantime, a recalcitrant Board of Control for Cricket in India continues to hold the tour and the cricket world to ransom, threatening to go home unless Harbhajan is cleared on appeal.

I liked most of this article.What a hard-hitting author
http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/current/story/329824.html
That mythical creature, the Average Man, wants the team to return home, we are told. Politicians speak for the Man in the Street (who is there because politicians, in their rush to defend the millionaires abroad, have omitted to build a house for him).
"This is not about cricket," Sidhu thunders, "This is about national honour." The President-elect of the ICC, Sharad Pawar, is upset. This is not something trivial like farmers committing suicide, which he can ignore in his other avatar as the Minister of Agriculture. This is the real thing. The BCCI runs the ICC and the media run the BCCI.
For a team that is trailing 0-2 in a Test series, India are on top Down Under. This is remarkable. It is the result of a combination of the BCCI's financial arrogance and media-inspired jingoism. This is dangerous, however exciting and ballsy it might be for an Indian. For it is this combination that makes huge headlines of incidents that might otherwise be handled with delicacy and tact. Already the ICC has replaced Bucknor for the Perth Test (question: if India had long-standing disputes with him, why didn't the board object at the start of the tour?). This may be good PR, but it is a bad precedent to set.

A very sobering artical.
As time go by most Indians will look back at this episode with regret.

Re: So Harbhajan is a Rascist is he?
Without fully realizing i think they set into motion the death of test cricket.
it's a game that is in danger as it was but it can't survive such bullying tactics by one member, not when so few teams play the sport and not when half of them are struggling to get people to games and others are heading towards civil wars.
I love test cricket but i have always been a believer in the saying that's it's better to die on your feet than live on your knees, i won't follow a sport where we have to be subservient to another team because they have more money than us.
India may win the political battles on this tour but they may find in the years to come they just lost the war to save test cricket.

I still reckon the cricket world is only one major incident away from a split.

Well, something's got to give. We can't have countries picking and choosing their umpires - and generally throwing their weight around because they think they have got the financial clout to get away with it.
If it happens, it happens.

Cricket will be fine - in the short term, some sort of schism might not be such a bad thing, it might prick a few egos.

Footage of the incident from the Nine Network shows Symonds saying, "so I'm a monkey, am I?" after an exchange with Harbhajan as they crossed paths at the end of an over.
A short time later, Ponting became involved and was clearly seen saying to Harbhajan, "that's the second time you've called him a monkey". The Australia captain, held up two fingers to emphasise the point, adding "there was once in Mumbai".

Is this conclusive proof?
Of what? That the Australians thought Symonds was called a monkey? Not really the point of contention.
Well, it has been. Have you forgotten that 36 hours ago FB was awash with accusations that the whole affair was the result of a malicious scheme cooked up in advance by a bunch of lying racist Australian cheats purely and simply to get Harbhajan banned from the next Test?
