Re: Open Championship
No Bell-like transformation from Donald anyway, one shot worse than Sir Nick who last hit a ball in anger about 3 years ago!

Yeah, only around four or five years between them. Tom Lehman, another veteran going well.
Speaking of Watson, he's played six majors in the last seven weeks, either on the senior circuit or the usual majors.

Hit a bit of a wall in the last two holes, but been a fantastic round by Westwood. O'Meara and Lehman cooked, all down to Calcavecchia.

Inward nine still being a qunt. Seems it will be a good afternoon to get anything under par.

Snedeker 4 putting the 15th and missed from 2 feet.

Re: Open Championship
Fair enough, major courses should be set up tough, but when almost nobody can break par even in decent weather conditions surely that makes it a bit of a lottery?

Re: Open Championship
Think the course could do with some rain to ease it. The greens and fairways have been rapid so far. It's never measured, but a stimpmeter reading on the fairways would be interesting. The discrepancy between morning and afternoon scores is a bit too big.
Cut at 8 over finally. Pretty big casualty list.

Re: Open Championship
I don't see any rank outsiders in the top 10 to be honest. Jimenez would be a popular winner.

C'mon Jimmy Nez. He's a cigar smoking legend!!!
Was surprised to see he ranks so low in world standings. 89 is far too low for a player of his calibre. Obviously no wins lately??

Re: Open Championship
And jeez, Tiger is way out in front at No. 1. 12.37 points to McIlroy's 8.79 (and dropping) at no. 2. Then comes Justin Rose at 7.82, Adam Scott at 7.07, and Floppy Phil at 6.68.
I see Kaymer has plummetted to 35. HTF he ever made no. 1 is beyond me. Going through the top 50, there's some names I've never heard of. Manaserro at 25, Sterne at 34, Horschel at 36, Streelman at 38, Colsaerts at 40, Piercy at 43, Moore at 45, Lynn at 47, and Garrigus at 48.

Re: Open Championship
He's nearly 50, so guess he doesn't play as full a schedule as younger players? Probably a bit like Cabrera who saves all his energy for the majors!skully wrote:C'mon Jimmy Nez. He's a cigar smoking legend!!!

Of the others you mentioned, Manassero's the Italian rising star who was winning tournaments as a teenager, Colsaerts is a fully qualified Ryder Cup hero. Don't know much about the rest, most of them Yanks I think.

Re: Open Championship
Blaspheme! Kaymer's a legend. At least till he decided to tweak his swing to suit Augusta National in 2011. Been shit since then.skully wrote:And jeez, Tiger is way out in front at No. 1. 12.37 points to McIlroy's 8.79 (and dropping) at no. 2. Jimenez broke his leg after a skiing accident at the turn of the year. Hasn't played much this year.
Sterne missed two years to a back injury, made something like 10 starts in 2010-11. He was touted as major championship potential before that and he's gained form this year.
Haven't seen much of Garrigus this year, but last I remember, he had a comically small putter which would've been to small for an eight year old.
To add on Colsaerts, won the World matchplay last year. Eejit had a half dozen foot putt and missed to leave a 15 foot putt on his way to a 9 on the fifteenth.
Lynn's usually just consistent. Playing on the PGA tour has helped his rankings, apart from the distant second at the USPGA and at Quail Hollow, which were the worst greens this year.

And now two straight bogeys to go back to 2 under. Tiger ties the lead.
Jimenez having a terrible start.

Apparently Adam Scott is tied for 5th at Even Par but you wouldn't know he is still in contention. Disgraceful television coverage.
