The thought sends shivers down my spine but now that Beetle is apparently out of the picture & Haddit is too old, who else the f*ck is there? Watson.....shirley not.
Is this merely an anti-Spiv sentiment, Mr Dog, or do you have genuine reasons for thinking he'll be garbage with the (c) next to his name? And indeed, fancy having Twat as the national leader.
What experience? what reasoning? He has only just managed to semi cement his place in the side this season Does he have the support of the senior players? too many questions in my book.

Got an invite to the 'meet the players' dinner the other day. Don't usually attend these shows as they generally clash with work but as i'm on 4 weeks leave i might have another look at the invite.

She's a busy lady, but settle, she might be looking in. Don't want to scare her off straight away.
Saw her today as she redressed the mangled digits. She said she blew up her remote trying to keep track of the Aus Day JAMODI finish and the Aus Open.

Siddle, Harris, Pattinson, Rogers, Lyon, and Doolan all spend useful time in the middle in 'practice' match (Futures game) before the squad departs for Saffieland.

Source?
I can only go on what I've seen, Red i.e. a handful of Massive Wank games. He seemed to do the job with a degree of confidence, had the respect of the players, and conjured up a couple of wins.
I guess I'll be barracking for him NOT to get FC captaincy experience by retaining his Test place through weight of runs. I'm not holding my breath.
Aye. There is simply no other option at the moment assuming he maintains some degree of form.
I think he's a bit like Punter in his fledgling days in the Aus Test side. He was highly respected for his cricketing nous on the field. Smith seems to have that same standing.
Anywho, I reckon Pup's got a few (c) years left in him.
not your best post S...smith is light years from punter in terms of batting talent, application and leadership...there is a panoply of ready to be annointed spivs ready to be the cappy - reeks, clotto, madman, gcs...of course they are all extremely ltd cricketers too

Er, you clearly skim-read my post, h. I referred merely to his standing with his team mates regarding captaincy nous on the field, not anything about his other skills. And we all know what sort of captain Drunky turned out.
But never let the facts get in the way of a good bag purge.

With Doolan seemingly now odds on to get a Test debut, I can understand wanting to give him a chance against the world's premier attack by shunting him down the order. The trouble is, with Warner as an opener and Twatson at 3, Pup could be regularly exposed early to the wiles of Stain and Verny, increasing the chances of Doolan getting no protection whatsoever.

Works for me, but then Pup exposes himself to the "our captain's a coward" brigade. I don't think he wants that image - remember his quick retort to the StuRat T1 I1 dismissal. His first scoring shot in I2 was a cracking pull shot off StuRat. He desperately wants to lead from the front & show heart to his motley crew.
I reckon this has been one of Graeme Smith's great achievements. Engender trust & loyalty by leading from the front.

The "captains a coward" brigade can GFT.
Two of our toughest captains of all time batted at 5.

Alternatively
If Watson wants to bat at 3 ...let him ...It's the best chance of getting a worthwhile score out of him ...if you shunt him down to 6 to accommodate Banjos or Bog (or TUSQHFFS) he'll crack the biggest sad and make his Ashes output look Bradmanesque
Banjos should be happy to be in the team and not give a stuff where they ask him to bat

If was up to Twat, he'd open. Perhaps "I'll leave you at 3" is Pup's compromise to the the big tart dragging his bottom lip around at the prospect of being moved down to 6.

hehe...oh well I thought he did bat a few times at 6 when capitano....but he still hid down the order outsourcing the strike to others when the bowling was hot, sacrificing others to chase the quick runs when he was not sacrificing them in run outs etc...oh well you know the facts of his behaviours

They also had better batsmen in the team with them. Particularly Waugh.
