Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Well it's less a message to him than a message to Shabby and co that the England supporters are not happy with the situation.
If Cook had stepped down and admitted he'd not been up to the task and he would get behind the new captain and concentrate on scoring runs and helping England back to the top, he would have been viewed more positively by every England supporter. Instead he and the ECB have tried everything to convince us there's no other option and seemingly given him free rein to have everything his way.
I perhaps wouldn't back booing him when walking out to bat, as it's not his batting we would be objecting to (well, maybe if he averages the square root of bugger all again this summer it will be...) but on the interview podium after a Test defeat or insipid draw? Definitely.

I passionately hope so.
He is, to all intents and purposes (other than the ECB's) unworthy.
So, you actually want a home crowd to boo a player selected for England? Really?
Yep.
I do without reservation.
Unless of course you approve of a captain who loses 9 out of 10 games in a series and then
loftily purchases himself atop the pile proclaiming a new dawn ahead.
Doesn't sit too comfortably with me, I'm afraid.
Like it or not, give him the boo, and in a small way, let him know exactly what the real cricket fans think.
Real cricket fans will get behind their team come hell or high water.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
personally I think Cookie does the defeat speech well and Mark N always seems to be there to provide a consoling hug...Cookie is a trier and represents the failing fortunes of his country with great stoicism..
I do not think the poms should be booing him....I am with my fellow Pears supporter on this...it is poor form (and red brick uni behaviour) to boo and hiss the mighty hard working captain of the poms ...even if he happens to be Cookie

As I say, I don't think booing would help - but his views since the smashing has either been as honest as Loki or as conceited as a Premiership footballer. If he really doesn't blame his captaincy, then I'm astonished. I'm hoping to hell he didn't just rest on his laurels when on his extended break, because he had some SERIOUS brushing up to do on the art of captaincy. One can only hope Peter Moores can instil at least some common sense into him. He is such a dire captain.

Indeed!
So you deny your apoplexy earlier this year during the Ashes debacle . . .
Anyway - for the record - I would not boo anyone else in the England cricket team - BAR Cook - whom I believe is deserving.
His walk through the Long Room this summer will be most interesting!
I plan on being there to witness the pin-drop silence (my boos will be left for later, of course!)

So, you cannot distinguish between support and criticism? That doesn't surprise me from the way you mangle the English language on here. I look forward to your comments on Cook's reception avidly.

Jesus . . . this really has lifted your shirt, hasn't it !
Mangle the English language . . . ?! Very left field !
Anyway, I'll be glad to pass on my comments about the over inflated buffoon of a "skipper" El Chef as soon as I have them to hand.
Meanwhile - easy on the port ol' son and by the way, never forget - differing views is what makes this world go round!
No point getting your knickers in a twist . . .

'left field' means 'unusual and/or unexpected', not 'standard practice'.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
So we should all be happy that after the worst tour in living memory (which is quite remarkable so soon after 06/07) there was very little accountability and the captain who presided over that tour is left to carry on as though nothing had happened?Basil wrote:Merlin wrote:Basil wrote:Merlin wrote:I wonder if there will be a few boos when he walks out to bat in this summer's first Test?

I'm all for blooding new players and adopting a new approach - maybe with a new skipper if Cook doesn't cut the mustard: but come the day of the first test against Sri Lanka I'll be rooting for the team all the way. What's so ****** odd about that?

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
What's odd about that?!
You totally miss the point Bazza!
It's not the "team" that certain people on here castigate.
It's their f**king skipper.
A man who totally f**ked up the last Ashes series with his negative approach and hallucinatory "leadership" (or certainly a gross lack of it) who now sits on high, boldly conquering all around him with his pontifications of "rebuilding the team" - yet again - under his leadership. Absolute f**king farce.
How I wish it was the Aussies that England were playing this summer.
It would certainly bring to an abrupt end the most inept, backward and piss weak captaincies that I have witnessed first hand over the past 35 years following AND SUPPORTING English cricket.
So you go right ahead and root for the team.
As we all will.
Bar Cook, of course.
Talk about my mangling the English language . . . try un-mangling your mangled loyalties, old son.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
The gashweasels were on it today - Root, Timothy Thomas, Blowkes.
At least the Carbs was in the runs as well.
Puke Shite and Ben Brown go positively Napeshit.
Matt Dunn in the wickets again - apparently he's been pretty lively, good bustle, tight lines. That Lehmann Academy seems to have done wonders.

Crikey, decent 6th wicket stand between Puke and Ben Brown for Sussex v Durham.
At 5-115 Durham must've had a swagger up.
