He'll be 26 when the deal finishes ...not 36
Dogs have plenty of cap room (if they don't then there is some overpaid crabs on their list) ...Sydney had won a premiership the year before and had then topped up with an overpaid key forward (and have lost a current AA this season) (and GWS/AFL would have matched the Sydney offer)
The risk for the dogs is the lad has played 9 games and kicked 8 goals (the sky is the limit on potential but look at Jack Watts or Scott Gumbleton) ...Bud was an established superstar has a few years of superstardom in him
Yes neat summary of the risk comparison between Boyd and Buddy.
The Dogs have been crying out for a forward since Grant's peak years and want bankable stars.
Amusing though that they are one club which has been crying out for equalisation and forcing the richer clubs to pitch in more yet they are paying part of Griffen's salary, a huge wage for Boyd and have dumped a coach who had a few years to run on his contract. Similarly the Bears are splashing money around to prise players from other clubs yet are putting their hand out to the AFL to fund them. Sometime I wonder if it really is a competition.

Re: AFL 2014
agree with you red...lets start including all footy show and other media appearance fees in the salary cap....Cloke who can barely string two words together gets regular paid gigs on the F. Show is one example...clubs such as the druggies and scum have nbeen cheating the salary cap for years through media deals.
Johnno Brown aside you do not get players from NSW or banjoville on the F Show or other media outlets

Re: AFL 2014
TF he didn't end up at Carlton (from his own viewpoint), as some of our notorious 'movers and shakers' wanted.
Yeah, as a No 1 draft pick it is perfectly reasonable to expect Boyd to be a superstar of the competition half an hour later, as every No 1 ever drafted has, except Anthony Banik, Josh Fraser, Michael Gardiner, Des Headland, Steve Hooper, John Hutton, Travis Johnston, Richard Lounder, Alex McDonald, Tom Scully, Clive Waterhouse and Jack Watts.
EDIT: Bryce Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer also have their critics, and a few years ago Brett Deledio's record of a Rising Star in his first season and two club B&F's in the next five - three major season awards in six years - was deemed insufficient by some critics (who probably opened their mouth too far too early and constantly need to justify it).
