Root's reaction was hella funny. Jimmy had better hope no catches off his bowling go to Joe.

I did see one article drawing parallels with the 2008 Harmison/Hoggard axing in New Zealand, but the significant difference is there's no obvious candidates to step up as replacements with the new ball this time around.

I'd like to see the Windies bat until a couple of overs after tea, to a lead of 150+, then declare to put pressure on Cook, Trott, Ballance and co. In my wildest fantasies Roach and Gabriel would then rout them for under 50.
Won't happen, of course; it'll be a boring last day.

It is - especially for the future of WIndies cricket, where folding-fan batting lineups and feeble-spiritedness of effort have been big vote losers.
Though - for a balanced view - a puddingy pitch and a fairly popgun attack (on that sort of wicket particularly) should really have helped all batsmen on both sides, in both innings - provided they concentrated on timing the "pitch-delayed" ball, which many haven't for as long as they should at this level.

I wonder if anyone watches this match from an illegal live stream? If anyone did do this then I imagine some people would be very grateful to receive a private message with a link to said stream. Very grateful indeed...

Anderson and Broad need to go. They've been given enough chances, and they're just not pulling their weight anymore. Subconsciously or otherwise, they've become complacent as f*ck, and seem to be either incapable, or too stubborn, to adjust and bowl the right length.
Sack them.
Sack them.

Could definitely be! Certainly seems like we might have a match on our hands from that first hour.Dello wrote:Decent fightback by the Windies.
New ball due five overs into tomorrow - the game should still be in the balance for a session and a half. Could be interesting. Almost certainly not.
But could be.

Anderson finally looking like some semblance of a bowler knocking on the door of 400 wickets. Not his absolute best but a big improvement. We might actually have a match on if the tail can be dismissed before WI are 200 or so ahead. Run chase against a leg spinner could be tasty.

Surprise surprise, Jimmy belatedly decides to charge in at full pelt, and he's getting awkward bounce and movement. It's both encouraging that he can still do it, and frustrating that he doesn't do it more often. Both him and Broad have shown at various stages in this test that they CAN still bowl close to 90 MPH if they want to, thus also proving that they don't always run in at full pelt. Somewhere along the line, about 2-3 years ago, England started to pretend that pace isn't important, when it obviously is.

Goodness, we have a test here. Will England have the balls to chase 200 in 50 overs? Surely they should try.

Another braindead run out. Hopefully WI don't make it too easy for England. I want to see a sweat.

You can usually rely on the 10th wicket adding at least 30 when it's England.

After all the good work yesterday, they just had to collapse in a heap today.
And how long will Chanderpaul be allowed a poor run of form at 40? Still believe he's better than the lot of them put together even now.
