Left handed, nuggety, reasonable defensive technique, can score very quickly. You could plonk him at 6 with no qualms, let Stokes play a slightly more aggressive role at 7. He's the best I've seen of the next batch of keepers. Plus he plays in a dogshit batting line up, so he'll be used to digging the team out of trouble.

When was the last time they took a punt on anyone from the second division, who hasn't first survived by the skin of his teeth worked his way up through all the Lions, Tigers, Bears, and Development Performance Squaddy things before getting picked for England? Our selectors have zero imagination, and Duckett is at least two years away from being picked, even if he clearly demonstrates in a private meeting with Choccy Whittaker that he is in fact the next Donald George Bradman.

One of my reasons behind it is that he performed well for the U19s in Seth Efrica.

Piled on the pounds too. And doesn't keep anymore. Gary Wilson, innit.

I want Ben Dover in the side too.

He'll meet all ECB requirements of being a nice boy when the chips are down.

Seriously though - Duckett is one to watch. But another season?

He's not keeping full time either, come to think of it. Sack him off.

Haven't Surrey got about 5 keepers in their team at any one time?

Not all keeping, it has to be admitted.

Not sure you have to keep every match to be a decent keeper. But would be a start if one of them could also make out what a bat was for, and actually have some semblance how to join theory with practice.

A: he doesn't keep anymore

B: he has the same footwork issues as Ballance,i.e. his first movement is back and across and when he appears to be playing forward, he's actually playing over the crease.

Ben Foakes then? Although he hasn't been keeping recently either, has he? He's long been anointed as the next chosen one by the ECB. Been on all sorts of Lions and Development tours since he was about 19, and he had a pretty decent season with the bat.

There was a brief period of rare proactivity when the ECB identified a couple of youngsters who had done little or nothing in FC cricket at that point and really tried to push them through the development system as quickly as possible. Joe Root was one, Ben Foakes the other.

And yet, with the wicket keeping spot now wide open, he's not being fast-tracked into the picture. Either they think he's a big talent or they don't. Which is it, ECB people?

Weirdos.

I think Joe Clarke is going to get the "Foakes" treatment; he's already in the Development Squad, being described as a keeper/batsman, despite only ever keeping a couple of times for Worcs. Rumour is that he might get the gloves on a regular basis in 2017 with Cox going to Warwickshire.

Reporting for duty! Been busy getting on with life - that and a feeling that this place had gone stale with one or two notable forummers noisily voting with their feet.
