I think you need to reread the Q, MrK. None of these skippers batted in the same position in their team's respective 1st innings. Root and Williamson both batted at no. 3 to achieve the requested feat.
Test captains batting in the same position with one making a duck and the other a 100 in the 1st innings:

Re: Trivia 2018
Surprised Bishen was not in more of them, tho shocked if batted at the same slot as Lloyd.
Was GSC involved in one or more of them during his run of quacks and similarly was Tubby involved?

Sorry. I didn't see the bit about 1st innings. John Goddard & Hassett both batted at #3 in their second innings in this test.

Re: Trivia 2018
In the controversial 3rd Test at Cape Town in the just completed series SAf v Aus, all 4 openers made the top score in each of the 4 innings. Where all 40 wickets fell, this has only happened 3 other times in Tests. When?
All 4 openers the highest scorers in all four Test innings (40 wickets falling):

SAf (311 - D Elgar 141*) & (373 - AK Markram 84) v Aus (255 - CT Bancroft 77) & (107 - DA Warner 32), Cape Town, 2017-18

Re: Trivia 2018
Nah.
Opener Bannerman topscored in I1, opener Jupp topscored in I2, but no. 3 Horan topscored in I3 and no. 5 Selby topscored in I4.
Hint: All 3 missing instances occurred after WSC.
