Re: World Cup 2019
Plunkett struggling so far... and Stokes may have an injury, we really don’t need to lose a bowling option.

I might have given Stokes a go before Plunkett.

NZ are batting like a team that knows that 280 will be more than useful.

Re: World Cup 2019
Yeah, wouldn’t want to be chasing something like that in a final whatever the conditions.
England are just letting this drift at the moment - wickets are more important than runs on the board at this stage, 120-1 at half way is a platform for 300.

Re: World Cup 2019
And Dharmasena’s supposedly the second best (non-English) umpire in the world? Or did they send home all the semi-finalist nationality umpires at that stage?
I just read that S Ravi is being dropped from the panel, leaving just four Ashes-eligible umpires as it stands (Razzie, Dharma, Dar and Dean Gaffney). They’re clearly failing miserably in developing international class umpires outside of England and Australia, and it’s been going on for years.
Anyway, Plunkett proving his worth...

When Erasmus makes a mistake, everyone notices.

Re: World Cup 2019
I never thought Silly Billy was that bad an umpire, when you look beyond the showmanship. Maybe in his later years he was, when he had got to the point of being dropped and reinstated through lack of alternatives... still, there were worse ones, even then.Basil wrote:He's no Billy Bowden.beamer wrote:No idea, they’ll probably bring back Russell Tiffin...Basil wrote:Any idea who has taken Gould's place on the list?beamer wrote:And Dharmasena’s supposedly the second best (non-English) umpire in the world? Looking like 250 or so right now, one of those Bob Cunis targets we tend to struggle with.

Bill Shatner did well to fend off the accidental beamer from Woakes, and then they failed to connect with the free hit. Innings fizzling out a bit despite the odd wayward ball.

Nice closing out by England. Sheep at least 40 short.
Unless Boult crashes through early England will canter to their 1st WC.
