Re: Cricket reruns
Saw the climax of the Cardiff 2009 draw, starring Jimmy Anderson, Monty Panesar and Bilal Shafayat, the other day.
Didn’t realise Monty never played another home Test after that His bowling hadn’t impressed (even Marcus Nought got a century in a massive Aussie total) and I guess Swann had surpassed him as lead spinner by then, with England rarely fielding two on home soil.

got five in Tests, actually; many players over the years merely dreamed of such achievements

Re: Cricket reruns
Looking at the stats, he got two of them, and a 96, in that series alone.lardbucket wrote:beamer wrote:even Marcus Nought got a century

His career record is a curious story of high standard deviation... a decent number of high scores but more than half his innings were 10 or under, including five ducks (presumably the origin of said nickname) resulting in an average of 35, the classic benchmark of mediocrity. As an older debutant it wasn’t enough to prolong his Test career.

In fact, looking at that career record I’d expect it to be more the story of an opener than a number 6, i.e. a lot of low scores but when they get in they tend to cash in... would be interesting to see if that actually tends to be the case in practice.

Re: Cricket reruns
Saw Cork’s match v WI in 1995 on BBC at the weekend. He just seemed to constantly make something happen that series, culminating in a hat-trick... after a lower order 50 made after he trod on his stumps setting off for a run and WI didn’t appeal!
