Re: Trivia 2021
I did look for Hussain/Vaughan examples as seemed quite plausible! Lara perhaps?

Re: Trivia 2021
With Burns having just fallen for 49 and Root on 48* overnight, what odds on a repeat performance at Lord’s?

Well, he didn’t do it first up as Bairstow sneaked past 50. Extras may do so in this innings!JGK wrote:skully wrote:Pretty good, I'd reckon

Re: Trivia 2021
Does anyone know the record for most consecutive Test innings in which a player was top scorer? Root has done so every innings for England this series so far, but someone must have done more than four in a row?
Incidentally, the last player other than Root to top score for England was… Mark Wood

Re: Trivia 2021
I've had a quick squizz, beams.
Tried the obvious ones like -
Weekes (5 tons in a row but not all of those were top scores),
Walcott (similar - 5 tons in 6 innings but not all top scores),
Andy Flower ( monopolised scoring for Zimbabwe at various times but no runs of 4 HSs that I can find)
Gooch (the best I could find was 3).
Bradman (3)
So Joe could be up there for the record.

Re: Trivia 2021
Interesting that none of those examples include four consecutive all-out innings, as Root has just top scored in.

Re: Trivia 2021
Gooch scored nearly 9000, no?
So he's either the top one or 2nd. I think he averaged low 40s. So I'd say Gooch for under 45.
Gilchrist made nearly 6000 runs at just under 50. Maybe him for the top spot?

Actually, Cook didn't top 50 average, no? He'd have to be the one for under 50.
