Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
Jake Doran started the game as wicketkeeper but started feeling ill & after 18 overs was replaced as keeper by the 12th man, Tim Paine. He was then diagnosed with COVID but under the current rules, Paine won't be able to bat in his place.

Jake Doran is batting at the moment, presumably with COVID.

seems like a smart way to avoid having a bat pad or silly mid off

2 more wickets needed for the Vics to seal an unlikely win

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
Great game between the two cellar dwellers Vix v Dubbers
At lunch NSW need 100 with 2 wickets
James boy is making me eat my words. Has match figures of 8 fer 80 odd. Can bowl bat and field, PotterII is bloody useful, ripped through the Dubber top order.
Low scoring but gripping cricket et throughout. The two States have 80 wins apiece v each other. Bragging rights for either team. Esp for the Vic after being sent in on a green top and losing 3 players.
PS Abbott is an arsehole

Ian Redpath and Peter Bedford - legends.
Both were South Melbourne, horrie, or did Bedford only play AFL for South Melbourne?

IIRC Bedders played for Melbourne CC… unfortunately. but he remains an icon for the Bloods and the mighty Borough. (port Melbourne)
I watched a young Redpath play for South and as a kid he was a hero who I knew would play for Vic and Oz. Met him many times and he was always a generous dry witted raconteur

I've noticed in the past 20 or 30 years the slow hand clap has largely gone out of the game in Aus. Probably because the likes of Hayden, Ponting, Gilly, Pup, Paris, Warner etc have ensured a consistent 3+ rpo in Tests.
I vividly remember sitting in front of the Brewongle stand at the SCG watching Redders put together a painstaking 79 v Pakistan in Jan 1973. His most repeated "shot" was the leave. Pretty much his whole innings elicited slow hand clapping to try to rev him up a bit. He was eventually run out by Greg Chappell just before Tea on Day 1 (he opened with Stacky). The crowd raucously cheered his dismissal.
I have never felt so sorry for an Aus cricketer as I did that day as Redders slowly and sadly walked of the SCG. He gave his all that day (his 79 was to be the top score in Aus's 334) but was massively under-appreciated by the crowd.

I see you've reverted to arsehole mode this week (are your missing your SAffer bumboy's endless jibes??). Â Â
So SGWTs never slow handclapped? I remember when they booed the fark out of Gilly when he first moved over there. Arsehole must run in Wozzie genes.

Go get your mangina flushed ...youve got a couple of boulders causing you some irritation
you post dumb shit I call you on it (Lance Morris)
the SGDT SCG crowd was agreeing with you
taipan and I can communicate whenever we want to so we dont miss each other ...perhaps you regret dingo packing him
Gilchrist WAS booed by the wozzies ...he was inferior to Zoehrer when he was gifted his spot ...he did improve though

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
I simply asked (after Nerkles asked was he a Wild thing) whether he was a slinger, pinger or chucker, as a lot of Wild Things have been. My question was no dumber than Nerky's (who clearly hadn't looked up any highlights) but you always go for my jugular. No need to get hostile over a simple question, Darling.
Uber driving clearly gets your tighty whities in a bunch, so it's your mangina that sandy and requires a douche. Don't take your grief out on your usual soft target. Relax, big boy.
But Love to Nigel.

Lance Morris, whoever he is, took 5-36 for the Sandies.
Wozzies have started shakily with 2-18.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
Maybe it’s time to revisit the glossary definitions of SGDT and SGWT. This thread is a splendid explanation.
I admired Redpath tremendously as a kid. He was fantastic in 70-71, was criminally left out of the 72 Ashes, and he only grew greater when restored as opener from 1972-3 v Pakistan until his retirement from Tests after 75-76. He would have been handy v England in 78-79, perhaps as captain, but was lured by Packer.

LOL. Righto. Was this when you first got offended re: my lack of knowledge of "whoever he is"?? Sorry I affronted your sensibilities by not looking up highlights of one of your beloved apparently inconsistent players. So vitriol spilled forth. So touchy. So angry. So sandy.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
He’s probably only highlighting my reply given to your implied query ‘whoever he is’, at the time. ‘Been around for a while, fast, erratic etc’. I’m quite happy with that description and reply even in hindsight; it politely pointed anyone listening in the direction of ‘whoever he is’.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
I was recently looking at the most prolific wicket-takers in the history of Shield cricket and noted Jackson Bird's record; he's accumulated an impressive wicket tally at an average only marginally bettered by Davidson, and few if any others on the list, despite spending half his career bowling on the Bellerive road. He probably should have played more Tests.

Aye, very stiff. Can remember the rationale for him missing was his batting wasn't good enough!
Some great names there. Fleetwood -Smith has great figures from among the spinners.

Yep, they chose Joe Mennie in Hobart because his batting was better than Bird’s. That turned out well.
