Opening partnership for WA ended up at 308 when Bancroft was dismissed for 135. Currently Whiteman is 181 not out.

Still well off the WA W1 record, held by Marsh and Bancroft

The Wozzies are all out; a lead of only 145, late on day 3. Need to smash through the Sozzies to secure a win.
Whiteman fell 7 short of 200; nobody else (after Bancroft) made a significant score. Manenti another 5 wickets.

Wozzie Matt Kelly's match figures so far: 7 - 46 off 33 overs. Useful bowler, can bat, a bolter for next year's Ashes?

Sozzies 6-66 at stumps, still 80 runs away from an innings defeat. This time Morris has helped Kelly with the Sozzie humiliation. Manenti the only player likely to score the runs SA need to avoid the dreaded innings defeat.

Barrels and Spivs look like battling for the Spoon this year.

At least the spivs could claim they were missing Smith Warner and the oz fast bowling attack
sozzies have had Head and Carey and were useless ...and now theyve lost them

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
Wozzies clean up by an innings. What a start to the season by WA, QLD, Neser, Whiteman, Kelly, and Steketee even Bancroft seems to have returned to some sort of form. Warner must be on notice.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
Another washout prevents Tassie scoring more points. At this early stage of the season it already seems WA has one GF spot secured, with Tasmania and Queensland fighting for the right to challenge. SA and NSW are locked in a titanic struggle for the wooden spoon.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
Next games:
SA v Qld - starts tomorrow, Sunday. QLD likely to bury SA for the season and perhaps consign them to another wooden spoon.
WA v NSW - starts Tuesday. If the Dubbers can’t win, their season chances are pretty well gone. If WA win again they’re almost guaranteed a spot in the final.
Tas v VIx - starts Thursday. If Tassie can win they stay in touch with the runaway leaders WA and Qld, if either of them slip up after Xmas. Vic could perhaps come back into roughie calculations if they win, but they would need major slip ups from WA and/or QLD too.
Already it is hard to see past a WA /QLD final.

Qld XII for the match against SA :-
Jimmy Peirson (c), Xavier Bartlett, James Bazley, Max Bryant, Joe Burns, Jack Clayton, Liam Guthrie, Sam Heazlett, Gurinder Sandhu, Bryce Street, Mitchell Swepson, Sam Truloff
Labuschagne, Renshaw, Khawaja, Neser & Steketee are all missing. South Australia will probably start favourite.

He couldn't buy a run in the Shield last season. 111 runs @ 9.25,although he took 15 wickets. So, he lost his place at the start of this season, but is still in the Qld 2nd XI. However, he hasn't played any cricket since late October. So, I presume he's injured.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
Harry son of Tim and the tail took SA to a respectable score on the end. QLD has work to do, still, for a first innings lead and a win may not be possible unless they are prepared to attack tomorrow, declare behind, and risk defeat in order to win outright.

Yep. Queensland got a lead but there’s not a lot of game time left.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
Dubbers are shit.
Although the Wozzies somehow let 29 year old straight breaking T20 specialist Chris Green take 9 wickets on his FC debut.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2022-2023
Quite a few sons/ nephews of former players in the various Shield squads at the moment. Off the top of my head there's Jake Lehmann, Harry Nielsen, Charles Stobo, Daniel Moody (nephew), Ben McDermott, McKenzie Harvey (nephew of Ian);
And add Ben Manenti who is the son of the coach of the Australian Women's rugby team and Will Sutherland, son of James.
