I think the best thing for cricket would be to lock Australia and India in a room, give them all a gun each, and let God sort it out.

I've never known such a sooky, whiney, bitchy, pathetic tour quite like this one. Both sides have dragged the image of the sport down - and continue to do so.

The irony.

It's not ironical at all, they simply do not intend to back their players. It's just that when the heat at home gets too much they make a big show of doing something.

Actually on the ground they have done little to nothing to support their players.
I think BCCI handled this one well. Did not exert any public pressure on CA. No doubt in my mind that CA officials would have had pretty tough words to Hayden despite the outward mild slap in the wrists. CA cannot afford any more slip ups by its players that portray Aussie cricket in poor light, more so now that they don't have the financial clout to call the shots.

Haydon's twit behaviour on that Banjo radio has already given Bhajji a high enough moral ground as is.....A couple of more gems on him from Aussies and Bhajji will walk away with all the sympathy.....

Hey batman, Ravi Shankar is back on the India times and this time he's a professor!! Laughing

Comment:U comment that other fellow is a weed-Just a mild warning! U call the India players a ba------d, it is just a word commonly used in Australia! U just provocate Indian player- Indians will be fined or Suspended U sledge Indian on the field- If he retaliated- just say I complemented but he mistook, so punish the Indian with 15% match fee! Australian caught using foul words- Indians are kind, they do not press the charge-We want to play fair! Indians save Australians & God save Indians!

Comment:Australians' rude, uncivilized behaviour comes from something in their past, that most people are unaware of. A large percentage of Aussies are descendants of 'criminals'. Criminals were sent by Britain to Australia as a form of punishment. I am not saying that a criminal's son is a criminal, but it's a well-known fact that some characteristics get passed from one genreation to another. And in Australians' case, these characteristics are 'being abusive and rough to other humans'. There is nothing that can change the 'biological genes' of a person, and so we can never change the behaviour of Austarlians. People play sports here in USA and sportsmen in USA are from all parts of the world, but they don't behave onfield like Australians.

Comment:THIS is such an poor response from cricket australia..they should have charged hayden with stern warning rather than moderate letting go as if he hasnt done anything ..... i must say we are mild and sophisticated by nature and can break silence in case if needed...........

Comment:How can Hayden get away , BCCI needs to take up the matter with ICC and demand a ban on atleast 10 matches , it is time we too learn the art of of putting pressure before the big event.
Name:Sunil Dandawate

Comment:It's no surprise that Hayden has been let off. Now Indian players and BCCI should learn lesson from this. BCCI needs to hire professionals to counter sledging because Aussies have improvised it as a technique just like reverse swing or googly.

Comment:Aussies are a racist nation ! They are scared of perhaps they will be defeated one day by India and lose their world No 1 ranking Indian youth is marching strongly hence only solution left for these bad loosers is sledging and disturbing the concentration of Indian players One should just ignore these Racists and thrash them so bad they will not rise and talk again! We do not need to use Nukes! Just good performance to beat them.

Comment:Not surprised at all. Bhajji suffers. Ishant suffers. Australians go scot free. Now Bhajji again. Is ICC listening?

Comment:What else can you expect from board of racist crickets? What surprises me most is the deafening silence of ICC? Enough is enough. Stop the series and get back. There is no place for Australians in IPL.

Comment:Isn't it strange that monkey is a racist word and obnoxious weed is not? Where are all those critiques making a mountain of monkey? These Australians must be banned from playing cricket.

Comment:Shame on BCCI!! Mr. Hayden has clearly crossed all the lines on the radio and BCCI are happy with a warning. Blame us..Not Australians!! Its time for us to react..

I think a collection of comments from the India Times would make a good book for travellers.

Gotta hit the bunk now. Just got 2 and half hours of sleep time before I get up for office. Haven't slept more than 5 hours since last to last Tuesday. Too much of freelance work I couldn't refuse after office hours. I am feeling really batty now. Too much lack of sleep. Haven't even seen my 5 month old, properly enough for 3 days running now.

Extract from a Herald article today:

'Insane' Hayden will get a fight, says player

Jamie Pandaram
February 28, 2008

AN Indian player has labelled Matthew Hayden "insane" and vowed to give him "the fight" the visitors believe he is asking for after the Australian opener berated spinner Harbhajan Singh on Tuesday and was reprimanded for his outburst yesterday.

Hayden called Harbhajan "an obnoxious weed" on radio and it didn't take long for the Indians to hit back. "If he's said this, he's gone crazy," an unnamed Indian player told the Hindustan Times.

"It's not strategy, it's insane and asking for a fight. And if he wants that, we'll give it to him."

The player also criticised Hayden for his on-field sledging, for which the Indians believe he should be penalised. "He will not stop making sarcastic or plain rude remarks, whether he is fielding or batting. It is very difficult to not get upset and we don't see why he is allowed to get away with his constant barbs."

I can't believe that quote isn't a set up.

This man, OTOH, seriously has a problem. There's an ugliness at the

Adam Gilchrist says Matthew Hayden remains one of the most highly-respected members of the Australia team

Not surprising to see that.

Post by Hass Thu 28 Feb 2008, 05:39

If I was an Australian player I would refuse to sign a contract that included a clause barring me from making 'detrimental public comment'.

I'd tell them they could take $100K off my salary if they felt like it but there's no way known I'd be signing my rights away like that.

This doesn't mean Hayden isn't a goose for inflaming the situation; but he should have the right to inflame the situation if he feels like it.

I didn't think Australia's one-time opposition leader, Mark Latham, was helping our country's cause when he called George W Bush, "the most dangerous and incompetent president in living memory". But he had the right to say it, and it would have been absurd had he been reprimanded by a bunch of suits for expressing his dislike of a fellow politician.

Free speech is a wonderful thing. Sometimes it gets us into trouble, but we should guard it with everything we've got.
