It's not ironical at all, they simply do not intend to back their players. It's just that when the heat at home gets too much they make a big show of doing something.

I think BCCI handled this one well. Did not exert any public pressure on CA. No doubt in my mind that CA officials would have had pretty tough words to Hayden despite the outward mild slap in the wrists. CA cannot afford any more slip ups by its players that portray Aussie cricket in poor light, more so now that they don't have the financial clout to call the shots.

Haydon's twit behaviour on that Banjo radio has already given Bhajji a high enough moral ground as is.....A couple of more gems on him from Aussies and Bhajji will walk away with all the sympathy.....

Comment:Australians' rude, uncivilized behaviour comes from something in their past, that most people are unaware of. A large percentage of Aussies are descendants of 'criminals'. Criminals were sent by Britain to Australia as a form of punishment. I am not saying that a criminal's son is a criminal, but it's a well-known fact that some characteristics get passed from one genreation to another. And in Australians' case, these characteristics are 'being abusive and rough to other humans'. There is nothing that can change the 'biological genes' of a person, and so we can never change the behaviour of Austarlians. People play sports here in USA and sportsmen in USA are from all parts of the world, but they don't behave onfield like Australians.

Comment:It's no surprise that Hayden has been let off. Now Indian players and BCCI should learn lesson from this. BCCI needs to hire professionals to counter sledging because Aussies have improvised it as a technique just like reverse swing or googly.

Gotta hit the bunk now. Just got 2 and half hours of sleep time before I get up for office. Haven't slept more than 5 hours since last to last Tuesday. AN Indian player has labelled Matthew Hayden "insane" and vowed to give him "the fight" the visitors believe he is asking for after the Australian opener berated spinner Harbhajan Singh on Tuesday and was reprimanded for his outburst yesterday.

Hayden called Harbhajan "an obnoxious weed" on radio and it didn't take long for the Indians to hit back. "If he's said this, he's gone crazy," an unnamed Indian player told the Hindustan Times.

"It's not strategy, it's insane and asking for a fight. And if he wants that, we'll give it to him."

The player also criticised Hayden for his on-field sledging, for which the Indians believe he should be penalised. "He will not stop making sarcastic or plain rude remarks, whether he is fielding or batting. It is very difficult to not get upset and we don't see why he is allowed to get away with his constant barbs."

The only words I read in that artcicle were: Adam Gilchrist....highly respected member..Australian team.

And I have to say I completely agree.

If I was an Australian player I would refuse to sign a contract that included a clause barring me from making 'detrimental public comment'.

I'd tell them they could take $100K off my salary if they felt like it but there's no way known I'd be signing my rights away like that.

This doesn't mean Hayden isn't a goose for inflaming the situation; but he should have the right to inflame the situation if he feels like it.

I didn't think Australia's one-time opposition leader, Mark Latham, was helping our country's cause when he called George W Bush, "the most dangerous and incompetent president in living memory". But he had the right to say it, and it would have been absurd had he been reprimanded by a bunch of suits for expressing his dislike of a fellow politician.

Free speech is a wonderful thing. Sometimes it gets us into trouble, but we should guard it with everything we've got.

At some point so called free speech can become the cause for a lot of misery in the World. Those boundaries needs to respected and upheld.
