Re: Looks like Hayden is charged by CA
He was told that if he does it again he'll be locked in a lift with Buckeroo for 24 hours.

Re: Looks like Hayden is charged by CA
"Maybe they [Australians] realise they no longer are the undisputed champions of the world. Maybe they feel the crown is slipping. Otherwise, why would a cricket veteran [Hayden] ask a 19-year-old [Ishant Sharma] to join him in a ring? You only need to speak to international cricketers and international teams to know in what opinion they hold Hayden," Obnoxious Weed said.
Sounds good but Hayden has been making stupid comments for as long as people have been shoving microphones in front of his fat gob ...

Um... I've seen CA, Cricinfo and AAP reports, none of which mentioned a fine. Link? Or is this a different offence from the one currently being reported?

India Times readers have taken the news calmly . . .

Comment:It does not make sense for BCCI to reward Australian players through IPL. Matthew Hayden not only gets away with offensive comments, he is let off with just a wrap on the knuckles. He then says he stands by what he said. There is no remorse. It is demeaning for us to host these people including Ponting, Hayden and Symmonds to make money off us by playing in India. Doesn't the BCCI have any self-respect?

Comment:I am sure BCCI will accept this again with "Ji sahib" -if we as a country retain any self respect Hayden should be banned from IPL and BCCI should ask for his suspension. Strange that such a low down comment does not bring the game to disrepute because it is uttered by a non sub continent player. Hayden's statement demonstrates the general feeling Australia has towards India and it is sad that we dont have the back bone to respond to this type of continuous insult.

Re: Looks like Hayden is charged by CA
Nothing happens to McGrath after he abuses Sarwan in front of cameras and in the middle of the 22 yards.
Now Hayden pushes that fine line by abusing Harbhajan on radio.
When is the world cricketing body ICC going to act against Australia ?
But it's not as if anyone is extremely surprised ... the Aussies are not about to censure one of their own, especially over Bhajji. Massive psy-ops...

Interesting - nothing online suggests he was fined but I just watched the Ch 9 news and they said he was. Frankly, I am inclined not to believe Ch 9.

Gilchrist reprimanded for Muralitharan comments
John Polack
May 30, 2002
Australian vice captain Adam Gilchrist has received a formal reprimand for weekend comments deemed to have been detrimental to the interests of cricket.
Gilchrist was made aware of his fate at the end of an Australian Cricket Board (ACB) hearing in Sydney this evening. His appearance at the three-and-a-half hour long hearing, before ACB commissioner Alan Sullivan, followed remarks made on Sunday in which he suggested that Sri Lankan off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan possessed an illegal bowling action.
Gilchrist escaped the prospect of being either fined or suspended for his actions, instead drawing the lowest punishment among a list of ten possible penalties prescribed under the ACB's Code of Behaviour.
Under the provisions of the Code, he was not permitted to make any public statement about the decision and duly left the offices of Cricket New South Wales without offering further comment.
ACB Chief Executive, James Sutherland, who participated in the hearing by means of a telephone hookup from Melbourne, meanwhile said that he was satisfied that the case had been handled appropriately.
"As administrators we do not enjoy taking action against our own players, particularly those of Adam's upstanding nature," he said.
"The ACB recognises Adam's outstanding contribution to the image and success of Australian cricket through his conduct, both on and off the field.
"However the Code of Behaviour is in place for a very important reason. Its fundamental purpose is to protect the integrity and credibility of the game of cricket, in this case, particularly in the context of the ACB's relationship with other countries."
The ACB's decision to reprimand Gilchrist followed a Victorian newspaper's publication of comments about Muralitharan's action that the world's number one ranked batsman believed had been made in private at a Carlton Football Club function in Melbourne last Sunday.
Gilchrist has the right to appeal against the imposition of the reprimand at some time within the next 24 hours. In the immediate aftermath of the hearing, it was not expected, however, that he would pursue this course of action.

No way to tell at this stage - should have clarity within 24 hours though.
He really should have been fined for saying something like that.

Nah, CA already caved in over the Harby racism row, if they punished Haydos the players would have told them to fark off.

Re: Looks like Hayden is charged by CA
Supposedly Hayden went in with a battery of lawyers to the CA meeting and they couldn't do anything against him. And just let him off with a 'mild warning'.
WOW .. this when BCCI has forbidden Indian players from speaking to the media .. Aussie players have all the right to go to radio/press/newspapers/their choice of poison and mouth off about whosoever they want and say whatever takes their fancy.
ANd all the Indian players do is become sitting ducks both in and out of the grounds, because BCCI is not willing to back its players like CA does.
Indian cricketers should now go all over media and say whatever they like and just go armed with lawyers and BCCI will not do anything against them.
Let this be a 'no holds barred' thing while this tour lasts.

It's not ironical at all, they simply do not intend to back their players. It's just that when the heat at home gets too much they make a big show of doing something.
Actually on the ground they have done little to nothing to support their players.
Re: Looks like Hayden is charged by CA
Well at least I now know why I have always detested Hayden.
Ponting and Symmo, there's much to respect and one always had the
feeling that at the end of it there would be a grudging acceptance. Add
to that the fact that our knobs were as knobbish as their knobs.
This man, OTOH, seriously has a problem. There's an ugliness at the
core. Mimicking accents, personal and public taunts, offering to get
into a ring with a 19 year old....

Yep, a bully on and off the field. I cant imagine any Aussie on here (Except of course Leo) would say he is one of their favourite players.
Guys like Lee, Stuart Clark, and Hussey generally seem to be ok. It's just the Ponting-Symonds-Hayden axis that seems to consistently be involved in on and off field controversy.

Exactly !
But the most revolting part is that the ICC seems to be most benevolent to this lot. They haven't been punished/fined/suspended/reprimanded for even a single instance in a single match.

Yep. Sounds sh*t as to me, doremi.
Russell Peters has a good accent. He has Indian ancestry but he's a born and raised Canadian.
He's pretty good at most accents actually.
