Getting up towards 5000 Test runs @ 40 - not the worst.
The WI have a 'workmanlike' batting line up, not unlike England. If only their bowling had a bit more ability they would be at the very least a competitive side more consistently.

We need to replace Darren Powell with a more reliable option (preferably one with a brain).
We also need to give the spinners more of a chance. But we are clearly improving and becoming harder to beat, particularly under Gayle's captaincy. We won a test in SA which is not easy to do, and we might even have won the series if injuries hadn't completely depleted our squad.
Now here we very nearly held on for a draw at Guyana in ideal Murali conditions, and it seems that we are about to win the test played on a more helpful deck.

Nice win. We still have never been whitewashed at home though that is likely to change when Aus comes.

Brilliant.
Though I see Samuels is still frustrating everyone. Gayle needs to come at 6.

Well done Windies. Finally an innings of real substance from Sarwan. Let's hope they can build on this.
Btw, before now, when was the last time the Windies didn't lose a test series that wasn't against Bangladesh or Zimbabwe?

Pakistan?
And re Chander and Sarwan, one's a under-rated over achiever and the other's a over-rated under-achiever.

Congrats to the Windies and Ronnie Sarwan in particular. Must be a real spirit-lifter for the team and the supporters.

All they need is another quality fast bowler to partner Jerome taylor and they'll be extremely competetive. If I was the chairman of the WICB, i'd be doing all I can to lure Chris Jordan back home from Surrey.

Naw, Sarwan's class, he just hasn't justified it thus far. Chanders deserves kudos for his achievements, but he just isn't that good. I like him as a batsman, but I don't rate his talent, purely his grit and determination.
Sars is the most talented batsman in the Caribbean right now - good player of spin and a surprisingly calm chaser. Looks to have touched up his game after his injuries and is playing with a bit more thought (and application). Chanders is an excellent player of pace - he just waits and plays the ball on its merit rather than dictating terms,
Anyway, regardless of who's what and who's who, they've got a good little 3 and 4 there (when they drop Samuels). If they could get another decent batsman at 5, with Bravo at 6, their batting order would look good. An opener wouldn't go amiss either.

Why isn't there a "f*ck off" smiley? There definitely needs to be one.

Nice one Ronnie. I hope he lifts his average to the mid 40's in the next few years, as I believe he is a much better player than he has shown in his test career so far.
Jerome Taylor was superb in this series too, he is looking great with both bat and ball. Get rid of Powell, get Samuels some match practice and play a specialist spinner (preferably Jaggernauth) and I will be happy going into the series with the Aussies.

Well done the Windies. A genuine victory against an opponent with some fine players.
BTW - could Chanders end up being the first person to score 9000+ test runs at a less than 50 average?
