Re: Next England Coach then.......
I do fancy Graham Ford for the job.
He knows the English game, will have seen alot of the county game, doesn't from what I understand like mediocrity and would get Rob Key selected to open for us in ODI's.
Perfic!!

Somebody would need to tell him that he would not be able to fill the England side with Kolpaks though.

Meh, I'm willing to take that if necessary to get rid of the balless one etc at the top of our order in OD cricket. Plus he'll only be the backup, he can carry the drinks!

According to our Sunday papers, there's a new candidate.

My Dad, like myself, is a Northants fan. He thinks that Kepler Wessels should get the job due to his amazing ability to achieve mediocrity. Very English.

Graham Ford, Tom Moody, and Mickey Arthur would appear to be the 3 leading candidates at the moment. I'm surprised Arthur is being talked up so much. Why the hell would he want to abandon South Africa (who are on the verge of being number 1 in the world) to join England (who are on the verge of dropping to 6th in the ICC rankings)?
"Thanks but no thanks *snigger*" would probably be his response if asked.

It should also not be forgotten that Duncan Fletcher was something of a surpsise choice as coach back in 1999. It looked for all money like Bob Woolmer was set to become the England coach, but Fletcher pipped him at the very end, and many people were asking "Duncan who?"

Re: Next England Coach then.......
Just watching an interview with Robert Key and he was was really praising Ford for the job. He said they've discussed it and, if it was offered to Ford, he'd take it.

Yep, I am sure Arthur and KP will get on real well.

The trouble with the closed clique set that's been dogging the ECB / England dressing room these past 4 years is that sadly people like Key and Ford haven't and won't get a look-in.
It'll be Moody as the next coach at big bucks with an unchanged "as you were" status resuming whilst the egos are continued to be massaged.
No way Arthur and Fletcher are going to be considered.

Fark me.
Arthur, No way. Helped out massively by a good captain and a very very good batch of players. He's as msoft as they come IMO. He wouldn't change a thing.
Moody - I'm a bit meh about really.
Ford - if only. He'd most certainly shake it up a bit, and has been seeing the county game first hand for a few years. Also get the feeling tactically he knows what he's up to in the OD arena, which would help.
So all in all we'll get Andy Flower I guess!

Flower may be an excellent coach one day, but not now. I think we need someone untainted by the current regime. I'd make it a short list of:
Moody
Ford
Lehmann

I think we need someone who will actually kick mediocrity to the kerb....
I'm not sure I see Moody doing that, Lehmann and Ford could well do.
The Andy Flower comment was aimed at the useless fat qunuts at the ECB. It'll be some meek pawn that gets the job I expect!

Aye, I'll say Ford.
He's done well for the Hopsters ... and we might just see Key a/o Denly and other youngsters get a look-in on the senior squad.
Only possible drawback - Grunt returning with the gloves!!

Scratch Lehmann - based on what the BBC website is saying. Moody or Ford then.
Ford for me.

Re: Next England Coach then.......
He only played 7 first class matches averaging a stellar 13.5 you know.
Also Kent really choked massively last season and he's far to close to KP for it to be healthy.
Must be Moody then- has actually had international coaching success albeit with the Murali reliant 'lankans. He's really tall as well. Who's going to f*ck with someone that tall?
Or from the the leftfield...John Buchanan.

Dav Whatmore seems to have stayed beneath the radar so far, though I'd prefer Moody myself anyway.
What's Rod Marsh up to? No front line coaching experience in international cricket as such, but he'd sure sort out the cosy corner.

Cooley was a moderate player, but what would we pay to have him back?

Whatmore is contracted to the BCCI, I'm sure it would help the already cozy relationship between the boards if the ECB even considered poaching him.

Sounds like a plan!
Whoever it is, let them be someone with enough distance from 'the clique'

Moody hasn't done enough at WA to give the players the "push" above mediocrity ....which is basically what seems to be the problem at England ...'We all average 40' etc ...
