Re: New EPL/Football thread 2008 (II)
There aren't many big names floating around that can take over unless Chelsea poach a manager.
Frank Rijkaard's name has been mentioned.

Not wishing to be mean to a recovering alcoholic, but Tony Adams has always struck me as someone who is teetering on the edge all the time and probably not cut out for a high-pressured position.
How mean is that as a comment?

Unbelievable, how are they supposed to win anything.
Well, he had lost the support of the TV.

Seven. It felt like a seven.

I think Abramovich is fed up with Chelsea playing like a bunch of robots despite parting with a fair wedge of his cash. Wants to see some glory football a la Real Madrid.

Isn't it rather just that they are drawing and losing too often?

Re: New EPL/Football thread 2008 (II)
Strange thing is that for the first few games of the season it looked like that's what Scolari was providing. Deco made an instant impact, Anelka was banging in the goals and they got off to a flyer. Then somewhere along the line it fizzled out and they have just been drifting off the pace ever since. Losing that 4-year home record was key, that must have been worth several points a season to them as teams would go there not expecting to get anything.JKLever wrote:I think Abramovich is fed up with Chelsea playing like a bunch of robots despite parting with a fair wedge of his cash. They still haven't lost to anyone apart from the other three of the big four in the league though. Says a lot about the gaps between the clubs if that's not a good enough record for a manager to stay in charge!

Think the bods must have been upset with the 3-0 & 2-0 reverses at United & Liverpool.
They never looked like scoring.
Wonder where this leaves a few of their players. Suppose Carvalho will be off & Quaresma must be saying 'WTF?' too having just joined on loan

Just heard the news about Scholarly - does this herald the return of the Chosen One?
Though more likely, Abramovitch's good mate, Gus Hoodwink.

Spain v England in half an hour.
Will the spanish fans be using the Injun monkey defence tonight? 6 black players in the England starting line up.

1-0 to Espana so far. Nice goal from Villa
Not disimilar to the previous game in spain last time. Disappointing passing so far considering how well they passed the ball in the last game in Germany.
Not sure Jagielka is an international center half either.

Yeah, because what the team that can't tackle or defend has really been crying out for is another striker...
Good to see him back, though. Not everyone would've returned from that injury.

Re: New EPL/Football thread 2008 (II)
last 10-11 games, we have defended well. scoring has been the problem.

Man Ure continue to impress.
Didn't need to get out of 2nd gear to brush another top half of the table outfit aside tonight.
Scary.
20/1 for the quadruple apparently.
Not exactly generous, but wouldn't be the daftest bet ever.

Oh . . . and: -
14 full league games...1302 minutes in total...and 3 and a half months since they conceded a Premiership goal apparently.
Nasri's second in the Gooners' 2-1 win on the 8th November was the last time Van Der Sar was beaten.
Fark!

It's amazing really, but not really surprised we were rock solid at the back last year and have made an improvement on it this year.
This team is definantly up there with the 1999 team. There are not many teams in the Premier League or in Europe that work as hard as a team and are as disciplined as this current side.

Last 16 of the Champions league starts tonight with...
Inter v Man Utd
Arsenal v Roma
then...
Chelsea v Juventus
Real Madrid v Liverpool
I reckon only Man United may make it - none of the others are playing at all well...
