Okay, scrap the Scots. They aren't even a real country anyway. Netherlands and Ireland.

If the Aussies played in Amsterdam, there might be another Tulip Bubble.

Any hope of the flags of all these up and coming nations being added to the "support list" in the forum? I'd like to show how much I think Canada will eventually rule the world of leather and willow.

One of my predictions was wrong: Canada did beat Uganda, bringing up the required in 47 overs.
Canada got home vs Uganda
Uga 8/231 off 50, Can 5/232 off 47. It was really only the tailenders Kamyuka and Ssemanda who kept Uganda in this match.
Ireland thrashed Oman
Ire 4/285 off 50, Oman 169 off 37.3. Zeeshan Siddiqui got the best results for Oman with both bat and ball. For Ireland, West got a michelle, and O'Brien a ton at better than a run a ball.
Scotland beat Namibia
Sco 6/267 off 50, Namibia 194 off 44.4. Snyman's rapid 95 not enough to save Namibia.
Afghanistan beat Bermuda
Afg 9/239 off 50, Ber 179 off 49.3.
Netherlands had a comfy win over Denmark
Neth 3/246 off 43, Den 9/245 off 50. Kervezee (121 n.o) did most of the batting for the Netherlands. Tendo stumped for a silver duck. Michael Pedersen made 121 for Denmark.
Kenya annihilated UAE
UAE 79 off 30.1, Kenya 1/80 off 12.2. Onyango took 6/14.

Canada 4

Uganda 2

It's seeing tournaments like this that I gain a little faith in the future of cricket. It's actually a pretty good system for gaining ODI and WC qualification for the Associates.
They need to do something similar in Tests IMHO...it's a joke that rubbish teams like the Zimmers and Bangers have Test status granted in perpetuity.

Round 3
Scotland narrowly beat Oman (Scotland 9/274 off 50, Oman 9/265 off 50): surprisingly close one. Opener Maqsood Hussain made 70 off 30 balls for Oman.
UAE got home versus Netherlands. (Netherlands 265 off 49.3, UAE 8/268 off 49.1). Shit eh? Emirates batsman Saqib Ali (78 off 88) was MOTM.
Ireland had no trouble against Uganda. (Uganda 155 off 44.2, 4/160 off 31)
Canada had a big win over Namibia (Canada 319 off 50, Namibia 178 off 48). Namibia used 10 bowlers.
Bermuda beat Denmark easily (Denmark 157 off 48.3, 1/160 off 38.1)
Kenya had a comfortable win against Afghanistan (Ken 5/282 off 50, Afgh 175 off 47). Could be a crucial match, in retrospect later.

One round to go.
Afghanistan could still miss out if they lose vs UAE and Bermuda win vs Netherlands, but that would be unlikely. Oman hasn't won a match yet but they could still make it to the next stage if they beat Uganda and Namibia loses Ireland

25 overs in, the United Arab Expats have Afghanistan 98/3.
Denmark 82/4 after 24 against Kenya
Namibia 81/6 after 26 v Ireland
Uganda 138/2 off 30 against Oman
Other matches are 'full ODIs' and are listed in the box at the top of the forum.

Re: ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2009, South Africa, 1-19 April 2009
Shock of the round was Oman beating Uganda inside 40 overs (Uga 5/298 off 50, 9/302 off 37.1). Knowing NRR could be crucial, the Omanis set off at 10 runs per over, I thought they might run out of wickets but they managed it all well. I did think Uganda would certainly make the 8. Maybe next time. Oman still missed out as well, and are indeed bottom of the group table, but at least they have one win to celebrate.
Canada murderated Scotland (Can 7/252 off 50, Sco 105 off 30.5)
Ireland easily beat Namibia (Nam 9/213 off 50, Ire 3/214 off 45). They have a clean sheet in the tournament.
Netherlands beat Bermuda (Neth 9/304 off 50, Ber 9/241 off 50). Tendo did much of the heavy lifting for Netherlands.
Kenya did what you'd expect over Denmark (Den 8/173 off 50, Ken 1/174 off 33.1).
UAE sailed home against Afghanistan (UAE 8/251 off 50, 5/257 off 47.2). Afghanistan really faded in this tournament, and has no wins against the remaining Super 8 teams, which puts them in a bad position. UAE have really surprised me, I did not expect them to advance.
Final group tables
Kenya 8
Netherlands 8
UAE 8
Afghanistan 4
Bermuda 2 (out)
Denmark 0 (out)
Ireland 10
Canada 8
Scotland 6
Namibia 2
Uganda 2 (out due to NRR)
Oman 2 (out due to NRR)
So the matches against eliminated teams are now erased, and everyone has only 3 matches that count, and we have the current S8 table:
Ireland 6
Kenya 4
Canada 4
Netherlands 4
UAE 4
Scotland 2
Afghanistan 0
Namibia 0
For each team, 4 matches remain, then.

Of course, this brings to an end Bermuda's ODI status. Had some good times. :-)
On Saturday there will be placing playoff "semifinals" between 5th and 6th in opposite groups: Bermuda v Oman , Denmark v Uganda, followed on Monday by 9th place playoff and 11th place playoff.

Top 4 qualify for world cup. Top 6 get ODI status for four years.
Bottom two go to division 3.
Those four ranked 7th to 10th go to division 2.

Falling straight from Div 1 to div 3? Wow, harsh.
And nice to see Afghanistan have learned some of the finer points of the game. Karim Khan has copped a one match suspension and Mohammad Shehzad has been reprimanded.
Karim was fielding the ball off his own bowling, but collided with the non-striker. He also tried tp tried to trip him with his right hand. Bang - a Level 2 offence. Have a break, son.
Shehzad was dismissed lbw on 8 and showed his bat to the umpire, indicating an inside edge.
