Sidebottom should definitely sit out the next match, regardless of this result. Too many leg-byes off him for the batsmen, not really much damage.

Just him? Only Bopara, Wright and Anderson can take any credit at all for the way they played. Absolutely ****** pathetic. I'd say send them home, but they're already at home - ship to Australia would perhaps be appropriate, that performance was criminal.DJ_Smerk wrote:Sidebottom should definitely sit out the next match, regardless of this result. Oh and Flower, piss off back to Zimbabwe, I'm sure Mugabe will give you a warm welcome at the airport.

Well, that were a bit shambolic! Orange peel indeed.
Stu Broad is not such an old head on young shoulders after all.
At least England will get a bit more Ashes practice in ....

Re: ICC World Twenty20, 2009 - Group B
19.1
Broad to ten Doeschate, 1 run, cracked out to the off side, Broad fields and should run him out - but misses! That's the fourth run-out opportunity they've missed tonight alone
6 from 5
They're going to run whatever happens
19.2
Broad to Schiferli, 1 run, tries to smack it out to cover but can't time it. Broad fields and does a Jonty Rhodes, diving onto the stumps. But as his right hand (holding the ball) hits the turf, he releases the ball - it's his hand which smashes the bails! Not out
Boos around the ground, but I'm afraid that's the right decision. Anyway - move on. Here we go, chaps. 5 runs from 4 balls
19.3
Broad to ten Doeschate, 1 run, Broad's dropped a wellied smash to a full toss! High above his head and it took a while to reach him
This is unbelievably, sickeningly tense. 4 from 3
19.4
Broad to Schiferli, 1 bye, he plays and misses, the ball flies through to keeper who is standing back - and they run a bye!
Schiferli injured himself during that run-out attempt with Broad. Damaged shoulder, by the looks of it. This is as mad as a box of frogs
19.5
Broad to ten Doeschate, 1 run, another smash, but he picks out mid-on! Only a single. Good grief, this is so tense
Broad around the wicket. Remember: 2 needed from 1
Just two runs needed ... off one ball! Hundreds of emails flying in - no time to read them I'm afraid, but thanks anyway. Foster's going to stand up to the stumps and Anderson's giving Broad advice. Foster's actually going back now.
19.6
Broad to Schiferli, 2 runs, goes for a club, Broad again fields - they run, and Broad has all three stumps as he collects it in his follow through. But he misses, and they run an overthrow. They're through and Netherlands have scored a brilliantly, outstanding upset here for the first match at Lord's!

Re: ICC World Twenty20, 2009 - Group B
Smart thinking by England: get knocked out of the T20s early, leaves more time to prepare for the first Test against Australia.
Might I suggest they use that preparation time learning how to execute run outs and backing up the stumps?
Spastics.

Meh - pretty much everyone's been turned over by a minnow by now.
Surprised it's taken this long for it to happen to England.

Re: ICC World Twenty20, 2009 - Group B
I don't think the batting was the main problem. Just the fielding and bowling.

England should have suitably pushed aside the Netherlands, but instead we crumbled under pressure, under lights and under rain.
Any team with a little more pedigree would have owned us even sooner.
We're finished in this tournament. We should drop all test players from the T20 squad (to keep them fit for The Ashes) and play a young side.

Re: ICC World Twenty20, 2009 - Group B
Well, I suppose one thing is that not too many of the players who will be left scarred by this will be likely to feature in the Ashes... Broad, Collingwood, perhaps Sidebottom, that's about it, the other first choice Test players Anderson and Bopara were two of the three who actually turned up. Still going to have a knock-on impact on the whole England setup though, even for those not involved in this.Dello wrote:Smart thinking by England: get knocked out of the T20s early, leaves more time to prepare for the first Test against Australia.

If the rest of the tournament is rained off, does that mean Holland win it?
Re: ICC World Twenty20, 2009 - Group B
Very well done the Orangemen! They deserved it. England couldn't throw.
Poor Broady - he didn't have to shy the last ball at the stumps, just hang on to it.

Re: ICC World Twenty20, 2009 - Group B
Before some of the Aussie forummers wake up with a grin and comment "arrogant, complacent England" .... it's rather simply that they didn't play well enough (batting places 3 and 4 in particular), or to an extent intelligently enough (lost their heads bowling and at the end, fielding).
Whereas fair play to the Dutch. In true underdog style, with nothing to lose, they had a baseball bash at it, and it came off.
