If there's going to be a choke from Roddick, time's now.

Re: Wimbledon
Roddick has had the better of this final set.
He was once up 15-40 on Fed's serve. Twice up 15-30 on Fed's serve as well.
Has one the first point of Fed's serve numerous times.
I just feel he will find a way to lose. Deuce as I speak. Fark.

Re: Wimbledon
Epic struggle.
Thank Gawd Fed didn't break down (again), like an errant husband challenged.
As one jazz musician once said to another: "Be a man. Sell out."
Well played both of them.

Re: Wimbledon
Well, what an effort by Roddick.
That missed volley in the second set will play heavily on his mind. But it shouldn't. Federer was determined to win that match. He was serving aces at will towards the end.
He was below his best today, but still got the win in the end.
It wasn't as epic as last year's final (as if it could be) but Federer winning 16-14 in the fifth to break Sampras' record will live long in the memory.

You really really feel sorry for Roddick. But a refreshing absence of tears this time from blubber boy.

I bet Roddick will win this one though.
I DEFINATELY wasn't thinking at any moment in that match "oh f*ck, PearlJ is going to be right"....

Re: Wimbledon
In all fairness Roddick was fantastic today and as much as I wanted to see history made today I feel gutted for the bloke.
Really hope he comes back and wins it next year, though he'll probably have to do it against Fed all over again.

Re: Wimbledon
Great effort from Andy and congrats to Federer on breaking the record. Roddick gave everything and IMO deserved the victory, but ultimately fell short when it truly mattered (6-2 in 2nd set tie break, and 15-40 break points at 8-8 in 5th set). But you got to truly feel sorry for him...seems like destiny is not on his side and Wimbledon will always evade him (having said that, Ivanisevic came back to record a fairy tale victory in 2001, so there is hope).
As great a player as Federer is (in fact he is the GOAT), there is something about his personality which is distinctly irritable. Pundits go on about his graciousness, but we have seen his lack of sportsmanship in the last few years when the likes of Nadal, Murray and Djokovic have threatened his supremacy. The contrast between Roddick and Federer was summed up today...Roddick held back the tears, despite being devastated at losing his 3rd wimbledon final against Fed , and allowed Fed to enjoy his record breaking moment. Meanwhile Fed could not do the same at the Aussie Open, allowing the waterworks to flow, and completely ruining Nadal's victory celebration.

Has anyone pointed out that Venus Williams won as much or more money in this tournament than Roddick?

Re: Wimbledon
Yeah it was ridiculous, had a couple of mates over to watch it and at around the 12-12 mark we all noted how it felt as though we were in some neverending tennis nightmare. Every Roddick service game seemed to go exactly the same, with Federer winning one of the early points to give us some hope only for Roddick to send down a few big serves. The only championship point was the one that he won, wasn't much to shout about in the other games.skully wrote:As everyone knows, I farkin hate tennis, but even I have to take my hat off to the Fed Express. 16-14 in the 5th!! Re: Wimbledon
Aye, some excellent tennis - but to term the match "great" is over-egging the mix IMO.
180 aces tells the story to a great extent .. bang ... whoosh ... ace ... fifteen love ... The rallies, rare as they were, did have everthing you hoped for ... but serve and volley games littered with a hundred aces just ain't tennis.
Well done Fed.
Hard luck Rodders.
PS - Now compare the Williams snoozefest final to that of the Men's marathon yesterday and figure out HTF the prize money ended up evens for both sexes. Absolute BOLLOCKS.

Re: Wimbledon
I don't think there were 180 aces unless they both utterly smashed the world record (which before this match for a single player was 55!).Merlin wrote:Aye, some excellent tennis - but to term the match "great" is over-egging the mix IMO.
