Seems like a long time since cricket was played at Eden Gardens in Calcutta. Bit of a waste of such a magnificent arena if it's only used once a year on average.

As for tests, Tendulkar played 8 tests in Mumbai, all of which were held at Wankhede. Most or only?
For ODIs, he played only 1 ODI at Brabourne, while rest of his 9 ODIs were played at Wankhede.

I think there is some sort of animosity going on between CAB and BCCI since Dalmiya's ouster from BCCI.Henry wrote:Seems like a long time since cricket was played at Eden Gardens in Calcutta. Bit of a waste of such a magnificent arena if it's only used once a year on average.

I think they play a few football matches there, dont they? Isnt it the home ground for Mohun Bagan and East Bengal?

I'm not sure about this. I think the home ground for both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan is Salt Lake stadium.

However, there are some reports that state govt may be thinking to use Eden Gardens for staging other sports as well.
Don't lease Eden Gardens to CAB, says sports minister
September 22, 2007
Subas Chakraborty, the sports minister of West Bengal, has requested the country's defence ministry not to renew the lease of Eden Gardens to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
In a letter to AK Anthony, India's defence minister, Chakraborty said around 65 days of cricket were played at the Eden Gardens in a year and contended that the facilities could be optimally utilised if other sports were also held at different times of a year.
Prasun Mukherjee, president of the CAB, said the letter was the personal opinion of Chakraborty and not that of the West Bengal government. Mukherjee said Eden Gardens' chances of hosting the 2011 World Cup will be in jeopardy should the ground host sporting activity other than cricket. "As per ICC rules," he said, "World Cup matches can be held only on grounds used exclusively for cricket and we may not get big matches later also."
The plot of land housing Eden Gardens is owned by the defence ministry and CAB held the lease which expired earlier this year. CAB has applied for a renewal of the lease for 15 years and the matter is pending with the defence authorities.

When did that rule come in? It would mean the MCG, Gabba, and SCG in Australia wouldnt be able to host world cup games when the world cup next comes to Aus. And as if that would happen....

There is an interesting piece about Tendulkar in Mid Day.
Tendulkar was acting as ball boy in Ind-Zim match in WC'87 exactly 20 years ago from today at Wankhede, venue for today's ODI.

Some good points by T A Sekhar about Indian bowling in this series.
http://content-www.cricinfo.com/indvaus/content/current/story/315736.html
Don't know why not a single Indian bowler tried bowling round the wicket to Hayden and Gilly in this series and why didn't Pathan open Indian bowling even once in this series?

Apparently Karthik has replaced Dravid in the final XI for today's ODI.
Senseless move by Indian selectors/think tank once again, especially considering they still have one totally untested bat (Badrinath) and one largely untested bat (Rohit Sharma) in their ranks. Would have made sense to include either of them in place of Dravid ahead of 5-ODI series against Pak, starting in 2 weeks time.
PS: We were already 1 batsman short due to 5 bowler policy. Now we'll be 2 batsmen short.

Ponting wins toss and elects to bat first.
For India, RPS replaces Sree and Karthik replaces Dravid, while Australia are unchanged.

Aussies playing and missing a lot in the 4 overs they've played, especially Gilly, who is all at sea to counter movement of Zaheer and RPS.

Apart from 2 wides he bowled in his first over, Zaheer's L&L has been immaculate, while RPS is all over the place and has already sent down 5 wides in his first 2 overs.

Whether India plays RPS or Sree, hardly matters, both are equally crap.
