I see Kelly was sooking as much as Dick when his JD car went backwards with a couple of laps to go.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2009
Bathurst has become as tedious as Nascar racing. The same cars that look & perform so similarly that you have to really squint to see the badge to know what make it is. The outcome of the race is totally controlled by the safety car & the circuit itself has become so sanitised that my granny in her motorised wheelchair could set a fast lap.
I miss the old days when the race was open to all production cars & part time drivers could enter when mini's would take on the Jags & Torana's would go toe to toe with cosworth Sierras.
Thems was the days.

Totally agree BD. Soon as they have a little traffic these days they go off. Seeing them rip through the field being held up here and there made it more of a race.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2009
Pah it is usually a terrific race and the safety car adds to the drama.
Otherwise we'd go back to one car winning by multiple laps.
One thing though - it would almost be better if it didn't contribute to the Supercar season standings because then drivers would be intent on going for the win rather than not risk going out of the race. That was certainly Murphy's view of the world yesterday (although I guess the other way, teams wouldn't work so hard to stay out there and risk more expense if it didn't look like they could win).

Yep. All you have to do is survive until the last SC and then sprint for the last 20 laps.
Hopefully stig can return home and teach his mates how to say Bathurst.

I actually know Mrs T's father. I sent him a text after the race saying she must be grouse because she beat the Stig.
She's got a grouse rack.
Hope the old man was chuffed - he would have been tipping in lots for years.

You mentioned you had it planned
How did you get in? Usually we don't just let riff raff in - we let them go to Cronulla.

Actually, his first response was "who was The Stig"?

This stuff was spoken around the office this morning. We had one bird say: "the Stig? That's Michael Schumacher, isn't it?"

This circuit rises a few 100 metres from Pit Straight to the top of the mountain. It's an awesome track that many of us Aussies (and visitors) have had the pleasure of driving around.DJ_Smerk wrote:Is this like NASCAR or something?
The race goes for 161 laps, over 6 hours and 1000 kms. It is the premier Production Car race in Australia and NZ.
Here is the start and first couple of laps of last year's race. The guy who bogs down at the start is Garth Tander, the winner of today's race...
Fair enough. Unfortunately I've never seen the fun side in motor racing, F1 etc.

Isn't motor sport only followed by men who need to over compensate for their gay tendencies?

If this is old news, ignore it. My bad.
Australian police are gearing up for an annual crackdown on motor-racing fans - limiting race-goers to 24 cans of beer a day.
Spectators at the Bathurst 1000 - a three-day race meeting staged this week - will be told to stick to just the one "slab" of beer while at the racetrack.

It's like we are living in a police state.
Some guys went to the track a few weeks beforehand and buried some extra beer near their preferred camp site for when they ran out
