Errr...no. One of the greatest turnarounds in fortune, most certainly, although Prior helped to lay the foundations but Edrich and Compton here in 1947 might have a better claim in terms of aesthetics and Greenidge and Gomes on this ground in 1984 a better one in terms of importance to the result. I still think this will turn into a batting fest if it hasn't already with the consequent likely draw.
Wouldn't be so sure - I reckon England will win. Possibly by an innings.
Not the greatest partnership ever for me either - but a damn good one.
Some other fine partnerships:
Lara & Adams at Kingston in 1999
Hobbs & Sutcliffe at Melbourne in 1925
Hussain & Thorpe at Edgbaston in 1997
Re: England v Pakistan, 4th Test, Lord's, Aug 26-30, 2010
Hirst & Rhodes at The Oval 1902:
Best partnerships of a batsman and a bowler:
130 by R.E.Foster (287) & W.Rhodes (40*) v.Aus, SCG, December 1903
117* by P.Willey (100*) &R.G.D.Willis (24*) v. WI, The Oval, July 1980
In view of the wide divergence in batting ability between the two partners, the strength of the attack (Holding, Croft, Marshall and Garner) and its importance to the outcome (West Indies were denied victory after England were 92-9) the last one is especially significant.
We'll get'em in wuns, Wilfred

We've seen at Leeds last year what can happen with Broad as high as 7, imo adds more to the team at 8 as does Swanneee with the freedom to bat at 9

Can't be definitive but I would suspect Ponsford (181) & Bradman (304) who made 83.05% of Australia's total of 584 at Headingley in July 1934. This compares to Trott & Broad's 79.15% of England's total today. If I'm wrong no doubt Skully and/or Wide Wally will correct me.

Broad is still young yet. If he can average 32-33 or so consistently over the next two years or so, then he may be worth moving up to seven - but not at the moment for sure. He has the makings of an all-rounder, in time.

I agree, Growler, one of many back to the wall efforts by England.
Other significant efforts -
Syd Barnes (234) & Bradman (234) at the SCG in December 1946
Arthur Morris (182) & Bradman (173*) at Headingley in July 1948
Remarkable for the equality of the partnership given who one of the batsmen was. The latter has a good claim for the title of TGPITC.

Has Butt played much cricket before? Doesn't seem to know the rules. If you get clean bowled then you're out!

Lowest score by Pakistan at HQ - 87 in June 1954. Pace and spin did the trick then - Statham - 4-18 & Wardle - 4-33.

Maybe that big partnership by Trott and Broad was just needless showboating. 102 for 7 dec. would have been enough for a handy first innings lead!
Re: England v Pakistan, 4th Test, Lord's, Aug 26-30, 2010
9th= lowest score at Lord's. Lowest score there since Windies' 54 in June 2000.

Looks increasingly like an effective 2-day Test Match.

While the Ponsford-Bradman scores certainly seem to be the overall Test record the Trott-Broad partnership certainly appears to be the England record. Again, can't be definitive but closest in totals not involving a declaration seems to be Dexter (174) and Barrington (256) which represented 70.38% of England's total of 611 against Oz at Old Trafford in July 1964. Boycott and Parks also made 50s.

Icing on the cake was Mohammed Yousuf falling for the three card trick by hooking Finn down Trott's throat.
