He's the official spinner for the A game.

Do Aus A look like a bit of a shocker to anyone else?

Not too unhappy. The bowlers needed a work out.

Mainly because of a 2-5 of Davis, Hughes, McDonald and Smith. Oh, and Hastings.

Goodish score at Stumps after the shit start. Most teams would take 7-325 against an attack including Stain, particularly when he took 3-43.

Not a good day for Vernon. 16-2-76-0.

Bruce looks impressive, and Tonic did himself no harm. Shame SF can't bowl for shit.

Now 5/174. At least they can say that they scored more than the Test side will.

Not so sure about that; SA wouldn't be too pleased with their bowling today.

I am sick of trying to log on the CA site.

I was using cricinfo at work. Was disappointed to see they only have session by session now but they kept the tour match reasonably well updated.

Henry wrote:I caught the first session live. Steve Smith actually looked in terrific touch, and Quiney continued to bat like Australia's most underrated batsman. Steyn and Kleinveldt were the pick of the Saffie bowlers.

Many sarcastic comments in the crowd about Phil Hughes's new and improved technique after his dismissal.

Not sure if he'll get a gig though. Another over thirty plus he has a modest first class record.

Doolan starts well with 10 off Stain's 1st over of the day...

Steyn to Doolan, no run, short ball ! Doolan is seeing is like a beach ball and just calmly ducks out of the way

Better still, he is depriving the Saffie bats of time at the crease.

Looks like SA attack doesn't have the sting in it we may have thought.

JGK must have Aussiesg favourites now.

The Saffers are rope a doping. Tahir bowled way more overs yesterday than he would have on the the first day of a Test.

The only surprise is that they didn't let Smith get a ton to help his Test recall.

Nice nips by the way.

Well Philander's bubble might have burst and you still wonder whether Tahir is worth perservering with, he just seems to bowl lots of overs at high scoring rate and maybe jags the odd wicket.

Wonder if Doolan would be called up if they needed cover for Punter's sore hammy.

Philander took a 5fer in his last test and yet you're writing him off after one tour match...... Rolling Eyes

Probably some truth in this, but Doolan can do no more than play what's bowled at him. Stain has some early heat, which he dealt with. 132* is handy.

And I'm with Red to some extent. It could be argued that Vernon has had very favorable conditions in his early Tests. Hard Aus wickets could be a test for him. Not writing him off, but this will be a true test of his wares as a Test bowler.

I'm just wondering if his bubble might burst soon. He has a great first class record in addition to tests but hasn't proven himself in Aussie conditions yet.

I don't know about all that. The only thing Philander lacks is real pace. Everything else suggests that he will do fine on Aussie wickets. He's a bit like an anti-Lee.

Saffie bowlers won't be undercooked by the First Test, anyhow.

Wow, Doolan and Paine cashing in. 162 stand, and total over 460.

Smiffy's taking the piss though, bowling Faff and the Beard. Stain and Vern have been tucked away.

Yep, I see to recall you saying the same thing on the last tour. In fact I think you started a whole thread about how overrated Steyn was.
