Re: Football WC 2018
Aside from deathriding the Pom and Russkie campaigns, there is little interest in the soccer wc.
Without Italy, the quality of the diving has declined.

There's only ever been one occasion where England have finished above Germany at the World Cup...

Last time Germany got knocked out of the World Cup in the group stages was in 1938 and we all know how well they took that...

So the England v Belgium match is looking like you would rather be the loser because you would get a much easier draw. At the moment if the match is a draw the winner of the group will be the team with the fewer yellow cards. At the moment that’s England by 1. Sonadcantsge Belgium.

So Colombia go top after beating Senegal 1-0. A dominant Poland beat Japan 1-0 to really mix things up.
After equal goal difference it went to yellow cards, meaning Senegal missed out.
So England (beaten by Belgium) play Colombia and Belgium play Japan in R16.

Re: Football WC 2018
Would serve us right to go out to Columbia, feel like we settled for the easier part of the draw. Would have loved a quarter final against Brazil and for an absolutely once in a lifetime World Cup a semi against Argentina.
Fully expect us to lose against Columbia, probably on penalties.

They were banned from entering. Don't really count it, same as I wouldn't say they finished above us in the years when we didn't even bother entering.taipan wrote:vilkrang wrote:There's only ever been one occasion where England have finished above Germany at the World Cup...

Yeah, pretty easy to see why Southgate didn't show any urgency after Belgium went ahead.
England now avoid any match up with Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Portugal or France. A potential semi final with Spain is in the offing.
Come on England!!!!

So it’s Mexico, Japan or Belgium in the final (or third place match) then?skully wrote:England now avoid any match up with Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Portugal or France.

Re: Football WC 2018
Nah, just cherry-picking the best sides from the other half of the draw.
Can't see Mexico or Japan winning their next game. Belgium may get through to the Quarters.
The "other half" certainly is more stellar than England's half of the R16 draw.

Belgium have looked the best side to me, on limited viewing admittedly.
